all about WIFI and SLIM

I'm trying to find a slim/"small" phone that either has WIFI capabilities or is able to be used with a WIFI SD or WIFI miniSD...I liked the Moto Q but apparently you can't use the WIFI miniSD on it unless the phone is plugged in...so that kind of sucks - I have a Treo 650...I'm used to the size of it so I'm looking for something that is either around that size or smaller...preferably smaller. I'm on Cingular...and I'm not really into the 8125 - so any unlocked phone would be fine...Thanks

I'm going to guess that you also want QWERTY, given that you have that now.

The Teo 650 is a bit of a brick. Just about any recent non-slider will be slimmer. Actually, I guess that some sliders will be slimmer too.

Suggestions: Nokia E61, or the upcoming Samsung i607.

Yeah, I like the look of the i607, but it lacks WIFI - unless it allows the WIFI card.

Since the E61 already has WIFI, I'll take a look at that one.

I heard that there was going to be a GSM Moto Q that was supposed to be revamped with more features than the one for Verizon...but who knows when that thing will come out.

Ah, sorry, I was reading an old article on the i607 that was overoptimistic about what its specs would be. Certainly, anything that I can find today regarding the actually launched BlackJack on Cingular mentions (often loudly) that WiFi isn't there.

Of course, if you are fortunate enough to have an unlimited data account in an area with HSDPA, you probably wouldn't mind the lack of WiFi.

I'm taking a look at the E61 myself. The prices are reasonable now, and I can only get EDGE here in Ottawa until HSDPA is deployed sometime next year. The E61 is slim, but not as slim as some newer models. Now that summer is over, I guess the shorts-front-pocket-fitting issue won't be as big of a deal. I'm still watching this thread in case of better suggestions! Anyone?

It's ok. Funny thing, I just saw Casino Royale and now I'm looking at the P990 or the M600...they got me...P990 has everything you could possibly want but has a hefty price tag and its bigger than my 650 so...I dunno...that kind of goes against the slim aspect I wanted. M600 doesn't seem too bad...yet it lacks WIFI - unless a WIFI card is made for it in the future. I dunno, I'm still stumped...right now I'm just trying to get rid of my 650.

Ah, I didn't realise that you would consider phones with no 850MHz, as it's usually considered essential on Cingular. If you don't need 850, your choices usually open up... except in this case. I just went to phonescoop.com and used their search tool to look for phones whose only requirements were GPRS/EDGE, WiFi and a text keyboard. Only nine models showed up, and the only ones that were notably slim (say, no more than 15mm thick) were the Nokia E61/E62 and the HTC Excalibur / Dash / S620. The HP iPAQ series weren't bad at 18mm.

FWIW, those all do happen to have 850MHz too.

Like Ian said, I think you should take a look at the S620/Dash, from the reviews and user opinions that I've read it seems to be a very good device. It is also slim, and about the size of a treo I suppose. If the lack of camera is not an issue, consider the E61. I love mine, though it is a little too wide for confortable one-handed use.

Oh alright. Yeah I'm using my K800 and it lacks the 850 and it works perfectly fine both at home and at school so I'm willing to go for the non-850 phones. The camera definitely isn't an issue since I have my K800 and I rarely use the treo's camera...but I'll take a look at both phones.

if you read about the P990 and M600, both seem to be suffering from MAJOR problems from the software, not so much the M600 as the P990, but its not too far off. If i were you..i'd stay CLEAR away from them until they are completely stable.

I would say the E61. I have used the E62 for awhile and I loved that phoen! It just worked and the screen in gorgeous!

Dont get the Dash. Wifi sucks, the volume stip is annoying and unresponsive, and the camera sucks. Its also very hard to hold(to wide)

Yeah I heard some stuff about that - cnet said the m600 crashes from time to time. But the price of those phones drove me away...p990 too expensive and the m600 doesnt have what I want.

Anyways, its come down to the htc prophet, htc tytn and e61...I don't really care about the camera as I said before...right now I'm leaning towards the e61.
