All About Eve

It must be one of the best films ever made. I just saw it, for only the second time...

For me, it's all about the women in this movie, from the leading start of Bette Davis, Anne Baxter and also Celeste Holm, to the minor parts played by Thelma Ritter and Marilyn Monore.

And let's not forget Barbara Bates, who appears in the final 5 minutes of the movie and definately adRAB something.

The dialogue is perfect. So many one-liners. The movie is also very clever, on different levels. Funny at times, sometimes sad...

Bette and Anne are doing so well. It's a shame they couldn't have won an AA, but I guess Baxter's petition of being nominated as best actress instead of best supporting actress destroyed for both of them...

I quite agree Jacobabe, it is a wonderful film full of fantastic performances. I'd add George Sanders to the list of great performances in this film alongside the women you have already mentioned.

One thing I've always wondered about with regard to All About Eve...........the final scene with Barbara Bates posing with Eve's award in the circle of mirrors, is there a stagehand in view or am I imagining it......if you get the chance to view it again, watch closely and look above the mirrors. I am sure that a mans head is in view looking down towarRAB the camera........:confused:

"Fasten your seatbelts it's going to be a bumpy night!"

There is an interesting gay porno too called "All About Steve"

I prefer Bette Davis. What a beauty she was with her big expressive belladonna eyes!

Yeah, but it really should have gone to Gloria Swanson for Sunset Boulevard if we're truly honest. ;)

1950 - a classic year for cinema.

Gloria said to winner Judy Holliday, "Oh my dear, you will have so many chances to win, why couldn't you have waited till next year?". Judy was nominated again but never won. Ironically Swanson and Davis who were much older both outlived her. Judy died in 1964 at just 42. Celeste Holm and Thelma Ritter both Nominated for Best supporting actress also cancelled each other out. Thelma, one of the best ever character actresses was nominated 6 times, and never won once.
