Hello! well, about three weeks ago i started getting a cold.. had a sore throat for about two days.. I noticed one tonsil on the right side was swollen but it did not hurt because my sore throat had went away.. well now it is a few weeks later and it is still swollen with no pain. I have post nasal drip and allergies so I was wondering if that would be the cause or if it would be something else. I went to the health center at my college where they said it was probably allergies but since it was not my real doctor i still worry. any suggestions for a swollen tonsil but no sore throat?

Hey,
Sorry to hear about your tonsil, interesting. It sounds like the typical viral cold infection in your nose that traveled to your throat. I've never heard of only one tonsil being swollen though. Do you have any other symptoms? If you saw a doctor I'm sure it's fine, and I'm guessing you didn't have a fever at the time. If you had a fever than maybe you'd still have an infection somewhere. The other thing is I haven't heard of an allergic response being associated with lymph tissue/lymph nodes which I believe your tonsils are - that's why they grow in size when your sick, or cut and infected. I'll see what I can find.

hey thanks for the reply. Yea i was alil concerned about the doctor saying it was from allergies because I've had my allergies before and that never happened. Also, it only being on one side concerned me. People have told me maybe it is just tonsillitis but i thought your throat had to be sore for that. If i notice no change tomorrow I am going to call my home doctor to make an appt. there.

I have no other symptoms. I took clariton like the doctor at school told me to do for any allergies or cold symptoms that I would have and that started to clear up so Im hoping my throat does but so far nothing. Im the type of person to get really paranoid about everything too so i hope its nothing serious.
