Aliens Special Edition on CH4 now

In the original movie, it was several days of having the face hugger attached before it drops off Kane. The hatchling then runs off and grows to a full size xenomorph warrior in what appears to be about a week. In AvP they go from egg to warrior in what must be no more than a few hours. It really is ludicrous.
 
What's the difference between Aliens & Aliens Special Edition? Is it the same as the Director's Cut?

I agree with the general consensus on here that the first two films were together the greatest of the quadrilogy & arguably the best sci-fi horror has to offer. Alien 3 wasn't as terrible as some have it, I don't think. There was a sharp decline in quality after its two predecessors, but it stanRAB in a light of glory when compared to the awful Resurrection. AVP - awful from start to finish. Doesn't live it to the Alien or Predator names at all.
 
Ah, well. I prefer Terminator 2. Aliens has that slow first half hour on Earth which really kinda drags. The film doesn't pick up until you get on the ship and meet the marines, and it gets better from there to the end.

I dislike the Director's Cut of Aliens because we don't really need the scene about Ripley's daughter, and nor do we need to meet Newt before the marines do. I much prefer to enter the colony as ignorant of what's happened to it as they.

Where-as T2 is great from beginning to end, and improved even more in its Director's Cut :)

Just out of interest, what do you think happened there? My interpretation is that the Mother is reasonably sentient, and was offering Ripley a deal: I'll let you go with Newt if you leave without killing my children. And it seems to me that Ripley accepts the deal, is allowed to leave, and then renegades by turning and attacking.
 
what was extra in the directors cut? i didnt know there was one

i sometimes think the early 90s were the best time for blackbusters (before cgi totally took over) - T2, total recall...erm, some others??
 
Just some small scenes which did nothing for the story.

When they shack up in the garage after breaking out of the Mental Hospital, they take out the chip from Arnies head, and Sarah tries to break it, but John stops her and they put it back in. (There was some great effects in this scene, they should have used it!)

Also, Arnie learns how to smile by copying some mans facial features when on the phone, but the smile looks stupid, and it's quite funny to see.

There are some more, but I havn't seen the SE in years, so someone with the DVD will be able to tell you more.

I liked the scene in the garage - shouldn't have been cut out in the first place. But the main problem with the Director's Cut is that it shows lots of bits and pieces of what the T1000 is up to. We don't need to know this - the film works better when we don't know where he is. The scene where he kills the dog just seems totally unnecessary - we already know he's a scary character; no need to sledge-hammer it!
