Aliens on Ch4 now

Superb film, probably the best sequel ever made. Great cast, superb special effects(for 1986), James Cameron produced a gem here, i love the dialogue.

I love Alien 1 and 2.

Each one ahs it's own uniqueness about it.

Difficult to pick a favourite as Alien 1 is terrifying and suspensfull throughout and Alien 2 is again terrifying and action packed.

Love them both.

I really dont undertsand that, why show a film after 10 and then cut it beyond recognition? I mean, they showed what appeared to be full sex on Big Brother (or very close to it) but they wont show abit of science fiction fantasy in a movie.

I wonder will they show the extended edition..which is much better than the original theatrical release

for one it explains how the alien managed to get inside the dog in the first place

Am wondering if somebody at C4 cocked up here.
Well after the watershed and of all the channels, C4 are usually the guys who'll show films completely uneditted.

I've seen a few versions of Aliens but not this one. It had been butchered.
Possibly the version for US TV ?

It's staggering how little effort is made to source good prints on TV. Aliens: Special Edition was only ever finished as a video in the 90s though - I don't think a film print exists, so I guess it's a particularly tricky to source something.

By and large, people do take care with DVD though, so to be honest C4 should have gone down to HMV and bought a copy for a tenner and put that out instead...

As for the best sequel debate, think it's time for a new thread!

I watched Aliens last night, not for the first time, and even knew a lot of the lines off by heart (especially love French and Saunders, er I mean Ripley's line, "get away from her you bitch"!!)

But tell me please that this special edition was special beacuse it contained the sequence showing Newt's parents. For the life of me I don't remember seeing that bit before. It's really bothering me.

Ta.

Yep. The special edition added the newts family bit and some other bits & bobs (the sentry guns).

I actually prefer the original version.

Thanks Philoola!

The sentry guns part was also new to me although it did seem a rather unneccesary addition. Perhaps that's why it was left out originally?

I didn't recognise the bit with that virtual park thingy either (where Ripley was told her daughter had died). Was that a Special Edition addition, too?

yes the bit about Ripleys daughter was added
(and the picture of Ripleys daughter as an old woman was actually Sigorney's mum - trivia fans)
