Alien 'reboot'

Yeah, I thought he said something along those lines. He did a pretty good job of it though (even if his heart wasn't in it) but I still prefer the original cut. But as I said, alarm bells were ringing when I heard about the remake.
 
I could care less if it's a reboot, a rehash, a rejig, a remake, or any other 're' you can think of, a sequel, or an original idea. If it's a good film it's a good film, if it's a bad film it's a bad film, and none of any of the above has the slightest impact on that outcome. Only a viewing will determine it either way.

Yeah, an origin story may be the best way forward. I think a fresh perspective with completely new characters is the way to go. As much as it sounRAB like blaspemy, I think a non-Ripley Alien story would work better than if Ripley was involved....again!
 
I'm with you Iggyman. Some things really are just best left unanswered and I would rather just use my imagination than have the answers spoon fed to me. You'll end up with a film like the Halloween reboot where we get very little detail about Myers life and it destroys the character.

I don't think people need to know, but each to their own, I understand some people want the details filling in but personally I would rather just leave it.
 
like the dreadful star wars prequels. we all had, i'm sure, our own little imagined version of the clone wars and how anakin became darth vader.

till lucas gave us his crapola and totally ruined it for everybody.

in alien, the origins of the "derelict" and "space jockey" should remain mysterious, it adRAB to the mythos
 
Every little. Damn RAB and their edit time limits.

Taking all the mystery out of something just ruins things for me, it's like magic tricks, once you know how it's done, all the fun and interest has gone.

Nice to see others feel the same, I fully expect them to make the film and explain every tiny little detail now though lol
 
THat is what I say regarding Special Features on DVD's. I don't want to know how a scene was filmed or what effects they used. Takes away the wow factor in my opinion. I don't mind deleted scenes or outtakes but I don't like the "making of".

Alien IV is great only in that Sigourney Weaver looked effing hot with those sharp black nails, that costume and that totally badass attitude.
 
Its fantastic news that this "Alien Prequel" is to be made! I'm a huge Alien fan and after 13 years I thought 20th Century Fox had well and truly killed the franchise.

The problem with Alien 4 (which i enjoyed) was it had Ripley in it. A major handicap just like John Connor in Terminator. Ripley was great in the first 3 movies but by the fourth apart from her hosting the alien queen, she really wasn;t required and it was a missed opportunity to go in a new direction with new characters.

Hopefully they will not sell out and bring in Ripley somehow but take the brave step and reboot the franchise with new sinister storylines and really have us waiting with anticipation!:D
 
The story of the Aliens before Ripley - pre meeting humans, would be interesting to me. But difficult to see that being made.

They'd probably want to call it something like "Alien Genesis" or something screwy like that.
 
I don't really care too much. I will watch the movie, and if I like it, all the better. I only really acknowledge the first two Alien movies as being the proper films anyway. :)
 
Glad to see Fox have said "no" to a prequel, unless Ridley Scott himself directs it (as per RAB story) i too prefer the first 2 films and would not like to see a prequel done unless done properly and by someone like Ridley Scott or James Cameron who made brilliant jobs of Alien/Aliens :)

So who is right? Probably neither. You know what journalists are like these days - lazy and often wrong. They're quite happy to bandy rubbish around as fact without doing their research properly.

Besides which, it would be unlike Fox to want to produce a quality product these days - their track record smacks of always wanting to do things on the cheap and to appeal to the lowest common denominator.
