Alien 'reboot'

Thing is they are It seems that studios have a strong franchise like Alien, then bugger it up with two crap movies AvP and AvP2 leaving them with nowhere to go but reboot it.

I can deal with a reboot like Casino Royale, Batman Begins which are using original material, they are not remakes. I'd be ok with them doing Alien that way, but if it is just a remake of a near perfect original then I'm not interested.
 
As long as it's above 12 I don't care about the ratings as you can get away with a lot these days.
Anyway Alien was never about lashings of sex, swearing and violence. It's all about having a good story, characters you care about, bags of atmosphere (or not in space) and a great baddie.
Remaking it is pointless as the first film still stanRAB up effects and all. I'd rather see a self-contained Alien story (with no Ripley) directed by Nolan or Del Toro.
 
I still want there to be some resolution to Ripley's story. We need Alien 5 before we go back to explore the beginnings. Alien Resurrection left it on a cliffhanger.
 
I hope this doesn't happen. Remakes hardly ever justify their own existence, especially remakes of good films like Alien.
 
Where could they go with the story? What new element could be brought in? I'm struggling to think of anything that would make me think "hmmm, sounRAB interesting...".
 
I only think of the Alien saga as Alien & Aliens. The other two films are either dull, or dreadfully naff. The less said about the Aliens vs Predator series the better.

No 'reboot'/remake/cash in copy please. :(

Just for sake of argument. Who would be the new Ripley? If such a thing isn't blasphemy. :D Are there any 6ft tall half believable alien ass kicking ladies out there in Hollywoodland?
 
I wouldn't really call it a cliffhanger. The Alien's were destroyed when the ship crashed into Australia and Ripley's story came full circle with her finally returning to Earth. I thought the ending to AR was quite good and had a definite air of closure about it.

That said, i would more than welcome another proper Alien film starring Sigourney Weaver and directed by either Ridley Scott or James Cameron. The people who came up with this reboot idea can go frigg themselves though. They're blatantly only doing it because the Alien and Predator series are 20th Century Fox's cashcows.

I do have a bit of hope for Rodriguez's 'Predators' though, i can't really see him making it as anything less than an R rating. Because let's face it, you can say what you want about films not needing excessive violence, but the Predator films ARE violent and SHOULD be violent, you can't have the universe's ultimate hunting/killing machine as a PG-13 friendly fairy now can you? The creature kills for sport and takes skulls as trophies RAB! To be fair, the same goes for the 'Alien' series too, the whole thing started with a monster bursting bloodily out of John Hurt's chest!
 
could not agree more. the Alien films where a trilogy - with some kind of bloody mess attached to it in the form of Alien Resurrection. everything was wrong about it!!!!!
 
Initially I was appalled at the idea of remaking this classic film, and when I heard RS had a hand in it my nose began to twitch, I'm pretty sure Scott said he was unhappy with the director's cut of Alien, so I couldn't see why he would be involved with remaking it.
But since it's emerged that this will be a prequel and not a remake then perhaps I'm not shocked.

Couldn't possibly see how a prequel could work but as coocoocachew suggested I guess there's a story behind the sabotaging of the Nostomo mission- I guess they (the company) may have already had previous contact with the Alien and sent the Nostromo to bring it back to Earth.
