Alien Prequel

No, it doesn't necessarily mean it'll be a 12A, but it would definitely mean that it'd be a very tame 15 (see the theatrical cut of Die Hard 4.0 or the afformentioned AVP1). Making a PG-13 rated Alien movie would just alienate the franchises core fans. It's not like this film wouldn't make money if it was R rated, the name alone guarantees box office success, it just seems to me that Fox are being greedy and compromising quality for a bit more potential cash.

wonder whether it will end with the space jockey having a chat with his dad space jockey in a church and then reuniting with a multitude of facehuggers, warrior drones and 1 alien queen to a crescendo of michael giachino stirring music and they all hug as dad space jokey opens the door to a new galaxy

can just imagine it now

let's face it - there's bound to be a longer DVD cut of the movie , so hopefully that will have a harder R rating .

but it should be an R anyway . the studios seem to have given up on big budget R rated movies , I guess the bean counters have had their way .
 
I don't know what it is with Alien films but they just seem to be getting it wrong all the time - look at the mess they made of Alien3 and Alien Resurrection wasn't any better (IMO they hired the wrong part of the film-making duo Caro & Jeunet) and the AvP films were just wretched.

Maybe the age restriction thing won't be such a big issue for the director, maybe he can still pull out a great film, maybe two but I doubt it. Had it been any other franchise, I'd have been a bit more optimistic but this happens to be the prequel to one of the scariest horrors ever made - I'm pretty sure there's no way in hell the chest bursting scene from the original would have made a PG-13.

I'd like to think that Scott was a director who'd refuse to compromise his vision and he'd have the integrity to walk away from this project if these rumours of creative restrictions are true. Naturally, they'd hire some other hack to do the job but it would be less of a disappointment than having another great director producing another substandard Alien film.
 
PG 13, are they out of their minRAB!

Like everyone else my interest level has flatlined. You need the film to be as scary as possible and we need to see skulls being cracked open like eggs.

its my first ever group i have created - so it may be a bit crap.
you hear about these kind of Facebook pages swaying director decisions all the time!! so it may work. worth a go before the movie gets finalised.

sorry for bumping an old thread but im new here and an alien fan..

I have to say i am so glad that Ridley Scott is back in charge of this but i cant see this being made a PG ever ...

Alien is one of the freakiest films out there and Im sure Ridley will be wanting to bring back as much fear to his creation as possible and to do that he wont be able to make it a pg13.

I cant see how anyone could take such a freaky looking creature and make it viewable to anyone under 15 at least.

I first watched Aliens when i was about 13 , then i watched ALIEN at about 14 or 15, im now 29 and i still get freaked out by watching the Alien series well except for AVP Requim .. that film i spose could be rated pg because no one can see a bloody thing what with the film being so bloody dark. Sigourney weaver was so rite when she said that aliens is a film that should be kept in space and thats why she never done Alien 5 which was sposed to be when they got to earth in the Betty from alien 4.

But yeah there is going to be 2 prequels, one next year and the other in 2012 , i really cant see them taking such a great opportunity to bring back what was once a great film until some people went and ruined it .. so yeah he has the chance to make what was once great for being so damn scary to make it scary the way he intended it to be, he would be pretty foolish to waste this chance to redeem his original creation all them years ago, but if he makes it a pg13 then i see that chance a complete waste.
 
As a fan of Jeunet, I object to that observation! He is a true Auteur, with a fantastic artistic vision. Alien 4 was not great, agreed, but you forget that this was his first experience of doing a film for a big Hollywood story, and their Mr. Dresden-style studio interference completely ruined everything, and contributed to the disjointed final effort. The same applies to Alien 3 - Fincher was forced to work without a script, and completely reworked it after filming had wrapped without his knowledge!.

The fact that Alien Prequel may or may not be PG-13, or have Natalie Portman in it, is not a concern to me - but the fact that too many cooks in the studio will interfere with it, is!!
 
I'm pretty sure it wasn't entirely down to Jeunet for the poor quality of the film and I think you're right, studio interference and the fact that this was his first Hollywood feature probably contributed to the problems but my point was perhaps it would have been a better film if Caro had been chosen to direct - he later went on to make his own Alien ripoff, which looks visually more interesting that Jeunet's attempts.

Just find it odd that they chose to employ just one half of an undoubtedly fantastic film-making duo, what made they lump for Jeunet? Had they both had been working on this film together and brought the same kind of magic they used on City of Lost Children or Delicatessen then it would have been a far superior film.
