Alien 5: A Possibility?

As a serious Alien fan, I was just wondering if anyone has heard any news about a fifth film. I know it was mentioned as an 'idea' last year, but I don't know whether or not it was ever developed into more than that.

the main two things I want to know are:

1) Will there be an Alien 5?
2) Will is star Sigourney Weaver again?

Thanks :)

I'm really hoping if Alien 5 gets made they will have it set in an alternate timeline or something where the dreadful two entries that came before it NEVER HAPPENED and will therefore enable fans like myself to FINALLY be able to see a REAL sequel to "Aliens".

If i remember right, it came down to a choice of either AvP or Alien 5 but only if Sigourney Weaver was involved. She wouldn't commit so they went with Alien vs Predator.

I can't remember where i seen it or who said it but it was about as official as you can get, it was a couple of years ago but everything the person said happened.

Hmm, I really really loathe 'Alien: Resurrection', to the point where I consider there to be only three Alien movies. Yes, you see I actually quite like the third one, especially the Special Edition cut that went to DVD - there's a real nice haunting beauty to it, a downbeat atmosphere that showed the emerging talent Fincher would put to such use later on in 'Se7en'.

Of course it's still an inferior movie to both 'Alien' and 'Aliens' but then so are most movies. I saw 'Aliens' enough times that I could nearly quote the entire dialogue from the movie...

If there was to be a sequel, it'd have to involve either the invasion of earth or going to the home planet. And it would have not to be an adaptation of the comic serie 'Alien vs Predator vs Terminator' which makes AvP seem intelligent...

Oh and

Wasn't that Apone saying that to HuRABon as they run to the colony building?

God, yes. Alien 3 and Res were cock-ups, weren't they? The characters we loved from Aliens (Newt, for example) were killed off carelessly, and the characters that replaced them were one-dimensional and uninteresting.

3 & 4 were crap. Aliens was the best sequel ever I think. It really was brilliant. I cant tell you how many times I watched it :), pratically knew the script! I was looking forward to 3, but was really disappointed, and the less said about 4 the better :D .

I hope they do bring a 5 out, and as Rhinestone says forget that 3 and 4 were ever made! And bring back Michael Biehn (Hicks) who was eye candy at the time!! ;)

I've pretty much forgotten Resurrection and hope it is part of the current C4 season so I can watch it again. I thought A3 started well, and got asymptomically bad as it got closer to its end. A3:
The beginning, with the colony, Ripely running around getting the autopsy on Newt, finding a fella and getting laid, and the funeral scene juxtposed with the alien coming out of the dog, were all great.
A2 was the opposite; started slowly and got better and better.

I prefer SF to horror, which is why I prefer A2 to A1. I'd hope that another Alien film would be SF and would explore the alien universe more. For example, I'd like to know more about the "pilot" species from the crashed spaceship in the first film. If we suppose the Alien was engineered as a weapon of war, then there could be two species fighting, Pilot and (now) Predator. My initial choice scenario would be an encounter in deep space between a human ship and a Pilot one, with the war as background.

You can't do much with the Aliens themselves; they are just monsters. At least as presented now, you can't negotiate with them or make deals, as you can with Predators. Although in A2 Ripley arguably makes a deal with the Mother: let me free and I'll spare your babies. But Ripley double-crossed her.

I think AVP should be treated as seperate from the Alien series. The Pilot was supposed to have been grown out of the chair, suggesting another race had built the ship. Wouldn't it be great (if a bit cheesy) in Alien 5 if it was from the far future and advanced humans had built it as some kind of alien dropship vessel?

much as i would like to see an Alien 5 and starring Sigorney Weaver i cannot see it happening. She is now 56 and i think too old for this type of film now . Let the series rest or have a new cast and try to make a star out of someone else .

If they did make another alien it shoudl be based on one of the books. if anyone has read the books they will understand as there was a book based on Ripley being a clone and the Aliens had invaded Earth and and it was a proper invasion nothing like the crap avp film.

has anyone read the books or am i heading down the wrong path?
