Alien 3 - Question

The character Aaron "85", spenRAB the entire movie derided by the Fury 161 inmates, and is not particularly close to any of them. He mentions his wife and kid, is hiding in the mess hall at the end, and is overjoyed to see the rescue team. So why on earth does he clout Bishop II over the head and end up being shot dead?

Because he finally realises that the 'Company' doesn't give a shit about rescuing them and are only interested in the Alien. Ripley had tried to warn him but he didn't believe her until that point on the gantry. That's how I saw it anyway.

Thanks. It just seems like a complete flip of characterisation at the last minute. Out of place.
