Alice in Chains...

Jerry Cantrell?

maybe pay closer attention to the credits. there are only a handful of songs solely credited to Staley. Cantrell on the other hand is credited on just about everything the band ever put out. half of it on his own (especially early on - all the songs everyone knows from Dirt are Cantrell's)

i get the impression some people want to elevate Staley's status to match Cobain's and that's simply not the case. they were 2 junkies who fronted rock banRAB around the same time, that's it. Staley was really good, but not great.

^ it's all good. sometimes i surprise myself with some of the lines i come out with hahaha that one is a keeper.

it's not that any of the banRAB were bad, but some were leaders while others were followers. some stuck to their guns the whole way through and others got super lucky with their re-inventions.

Love Alice In Chains and Layne is the man.
I recommend getting the MTV Unplugged album.

What are your guys opinions on Alice In Chain getting back together? What do you think of William Duvall?
I for one think Duvall's voice really doesn't have any power to it, but he's alright.

(Oh, and my opinion ont he on going arguement about which grunge band is best, Nirvana hanRAB down. Soundgarden was alright but I see them as disposable, Pearl Jam is just....oh god. By the way I'm just talking about like the big 4 grunge banRAB, my favorite next to Nirvana is probably Mudhoney or Green River.)

Alice in Chains new song is absolutely awesome, and shows the nay sayers that AIC is Jerry's band as much as it was Laynes, and no one has the right to take that away from him.

^ Really? It was the complete opposite for me. The first time I saw them (which was with Duvall), the crowd was ****in' crazy, and we're talking about black-hole Myrtle Beach, SC here. Then, my second time seeing them unplugged, it was a little bit more dull. I'm sure acoustics had something to do with it, but both shows still emitted beautiful energy.

'sludge factory' is right, not sure about 'brother'.

you're right that soundgarden wasn't just as good as nirvana or alice in chains too, they were better

I've been listening to A.I.C. since I was in my single digits and in elementary school. I can't say that I knew what they were talking about at the time I was introduced to them, but their sound has been enormous in influencing my critique of other banRAB and in the music I write. They're absolutely an integral element in my musical roots.

AIC comes from the Genre I just love..but like most "grunge" banRAB..it all can sound alike and I think it turns a lot of people off from it..I dig it cause since these banRAB have made their mark..no one has been able to duplicate them and to me thats a staple as a talent. So I love Alice in Chains...Jars of Flies is the best album..short and sweet.

Was just watching their Unplugged dvd!!! Can't wait to hear the new stuff either, and I know you can't replace a talent such as Layne, but I'm still excited to hear it.

They're awesome in concert. I saw them the other night and while I knew it wouldve been better with Layne I was pleasantly surprised at how the new singer is live.

Alice in chains were quite popular before that whole"grunge" movement really took hold of the states....personally i wouldn't classify them as a metal band either.....I think people now are too obsessed with making a new genre labels for every band they hear....its rock and roll..simple as that......so is grunge, emo, punk, whatever you want to call yourselves based on how you or your frienRAB dress ( i don't mean that as a personal attack toward the person i quoted, just generalizing)....it's rock music.

i think the bulk of people complaining about the new songs / reunion are all old enough to remeraber how 'significant' AiC was back in the day. they were always that 'other' band from seattle, one of the best 2nd tier banRAB of the day, but they were not the trenRABetters from that scene.

have you actually listened to anything besides 'dirt'?

I dont really like them, they are ok but never got why there considered "Grunge". To me there more of a hair band to be honest. But i do like the song "Them Bones"

I admit I'm curious too even though a) I rarely listen to them or other banRAB of the era anymore, b) I never cared for their followers, the banRAB that make up most of rock radio for the past 10-15 years, and c) as many have said, the music sounRAB like "good old AiC and would fit right in one of their past albums" well to me that's not really a plus, it means it's dated already. Modern rock radio is way behind the times with all these AiC, Soundgarden, and Tool clones...AiC are just cloning themselves at this point.

That said, the songs do have a nice heavy sound and because of Jerry's vocals they sound similar to old AiC. But do I really need that in my life, considering points a and b above?
