He was quite funny back in his 11o'clock news days, but then it was Sacha Baron-Cohen having the joke on his interviewees, whereas the film is more about the joke being on Ali G ie Ali G being manipulated by politicians. Because of this shift in the humour, it doesn't look like its going to work, for me at least.
Well, after actually seeing the film, I don't think the trailer does it justice at all - in the film, it's plainly obvious that he is still very much taking the piss out of that sort of people, but in the trailer he's being played as a "cool" person - it's totally backwarRAB.
Still, I did really enjoy the film, very funny in places although as is often with TV-to-film conversions, it dragged a little towarRAB the end.
Yeah, i saw the film too. Was good, but nothing to write home about. He did the character justice but i think he should let Ali rest for a year now and bring him back later (please NOT a sequel!! maybe another series interviewing international stars rather than the british who are familiar with him now)
He should concentrate on new characters or even borat!!
Alig G Indahouse is supposed to be a fun and funny film, end of story. And to this end it is. I laughed my arse off. I gasped and laughed most of the way through.
I loved Ali G, Borat and anything else he has done from the start. To all you people who think Sascha has lost the point of the characer, go and see it because he so obviously hasn't lost it. There is tons of humour in the detail, things in draws and posters he's written in the background making for several DVD pause moments.
A touch too many Benny Hillesque moments (eye on the US I think) but they don't harm it too much.
I'd give the film 7/10. That's pretty good for a comedy.
Eh? I think its fair enough to decide not to see a film if you don't like the main person in it! I don't really like Ali G, I find he's ok in small doses - just how will the film threfore appeal to me?
Oh tell you what - I'll just go watch every film that comes out!
The fact is it doesn't appeal! I didn't say it was crap although I am pretty sure that if I was to go see it I would probably emerge with that opinion
That's what I was getting at - people who hadn't even seen it we're calling it crap. How do they know?
If it doesn't appeal to you because you don't like the trailer or the characters, fair enough, don't watch it. But people then comment on how crap it is!!
Yeah, that baron guy has actually pulled off a good movie. People may slate it, but what are they comparing it to? Gladiator? Ben Hur? Sure, its no classic, but it is actually funny.
And he played ali g tru to his roots... a nerdy wanna-be who we laugh at, which ofcourse made it funny in the first place.
