Two less than three times a number is equal to 14 more than five times the number. what is the number?

Would I write that out as: 3x - 2 = 5x + 14
& How would I solve that? I want to know the steps :( this is sooo hard

Your equation is perfect. To solve move the x terms to one side and the other terms to the other, then divide by the number in front of x

3x - 2 = 5x + 14
-5x + 2 -5x + 2
-------------------------
-2x = 16

x = 16/-2 = -8
