Algebra Help-Complex Fractions and Addition/Subtraction of Rational Expressions?

I'm having a lot of trouble with my algebra homework. I've looked through the book and have asked some friends for help, but it's still confusing the heck out of me. Here are the problems I am struggling with:

7 1
___________ + ______________
4k^2 - k - 3 4k^2 - 7k +3

5a^-1+(ab)^-1

3a^2

These ones I attempted, but I don't think I did them right. Could someone correct them for me?

4 - 1
___
y

_________
1 4
___ - _____
y y^2

For this one I did this:
4 - 1(y)
___
y(y)

And got:

4 y
__ - ____
Y y
____________ = 3 3y^2
y - 4_____ = _______* ________
____ ____ y y3
y^2 y^2 ________
3
__________ = 3y^2
y^2 _________ = Final answer= y.
3y

Any help that anyone can give me is greatly wanted and appreciated! I would really appreciate it if people could explain how to do this and what I’m doing wrong instead of just simply giving me the answers. Thanks so much!
