Algebra 1 question? i can't figure this out to save my life!! help please?

equasion: (-2)^3(-k - I-3I) - (-2) - 2k = k - 3^2

what i have: (-8) (-k - 3) + 2 - 2k = k - 9
8k - 24 + 2 - 2k = k - 9
6k - 22 = k - 9
6k = k + 13
5k/5 = 13/5
= 2.5


i've done this question at least 6 times and got the answers 5 or -5 and now 2.5, but the answer is -7. could you show me what i did wrong please? thanks :)
