Algae Growing in Betta Fish Tank?

Ok so, I have a fish tank in which only recently, algae has started to grow. The most common cure that I've seen is to get an algae eating fish. However, the fish in this tank is a betta and he does not take kindly to other fish. He even flares at my albino cory catfish, who are in a small tank next to his. I tried them together when I first got them, but he ate their fins. The only other thing I've seen is to cut back on how much light he gets. Any other suggestions, or is that all I can do?
 
try to put your aquarium so as little sunlight as possible hits it.also add uniodized salt to your tank if you have no live plants or snails.this will kill your algae,and is helpful for your fish.
 
Algae is very common and is not necessarily a problem. i actually like it a bit on my tank so it gives my fake plants and rocks a more "natural" look. If you want to get rid of them allow less light. A typical day for fish should have 10hrs of light. Allow maybe 8hrs to control it more. Make sure your tank is not near sunlight. Do not overfeed your fish and do 25% water changes weekly. Also, there are chemicals you can buy at your local pet shop that gets rid of algae. They are really effective.
