that would highly depend upon MANY different factors actually. how long were you actually drinking, nuraber of years? just what are your current enzyme nurabers(ALT AST) and the alk phos along with ANY raise in your biliruben? have you had at least an ultrasound run on your abdominal which would include a rather in depth scan of the liver and the more crucial areas of blood flow esp in that portal vein? this would also check your inta and extra hepatic bile ducts for any level of real damage too?
alot of what IS possible to actually regain after many years of chronic alcohol consumption really depenRAB heavily upon exactly how much real true scarring and damage is done to the liver. while some liver can regenerate over time, if that overall damage is simply too severe, or that portal vein has actually scarred over, it will not happen that way. i have a liver and also kidney disease courtesy of genetic crap and my son at only age 12 was found to have a devistating liver disease from this same condition(his 'version' of this disease mutated in him into a nightmare). luckily he was able to get a badly needed transplant right when he needed it or he would not even be here today. so if you have any questions about the liver, i DO unfortunetly have some solid experience in this crappy stuff. i would be more than happy to try and answer questions you may have if i can. have you actually quit drinking completely? marcia
