Albums You Hate By Bands You Love

Well, 'Bad Moon Rising' is a somewhat difficult listen too....and not especially great IMHO, although it has a certain charm.

I think 'Rather Ripped' has more of a stoner bubblegum pop vibe than anything from their 80s/90s phase. I like that style with them personally but yeah, if you want the more noisy dynamics I can see why you wouldn't get on with it.

Did you try last year's 'The Eternal'? That was more of a return to the dirtier style of old, much more raw garage sound. Personally not quite as good as RR for me but there's not much in it.
 
For me, Exile was the end of their "Great" album run.




I don't mind Goats Head Soup, and Black and Blue has "Far Away Eyes" which is a good song. I think Goats Head Soup just has "Following a great album Syndrome", where it doesn't matter if it's decent or not, people are still going to expect Exile Pt. 2.





No way! I think Sticky Fingers is just as good as "Let It Bleed" and "Beggars Banquet", with Exile eclipsing all of them. 'Sticky Fingers' has 'Sway', 'Dead Flowers', 'Ive Got the Blues', 'Wild Horses', so many great tunes. And of course, Exile being my favorite Stones album, no explanation neccasarry.
 
radiohead- pablo honey. not a good indication of things to come, bar creep its all filler and no killer.

led zeppelin- in through the outdoor. a decline in the standarRAB set, this is the sound of a band nearing the end.

pavement- terror twilight. just really bad. the difference in creativity and quality between this and brighten the corners is quite profound

beck- midnight vultures. his attempts at the american pre hip-hop urban music style free falls into oblivion. steer clear.

stone roses- second coming. not a fan of this album. with exception to ten storey love song, theres not one track that stanRAB out to me. pretty boring.
 
Me either, but that's because the standard set by those albums is impossibly high.

I think if you take any decent album, and make believe it came out after those three, it pales in comparison. If you can seperate it from those three, Bossanovas pretty good, just not as immediate.

I'm not some fanboy either, its my least favorite Pixies record, but it's still a very good album.
 
Yeah, I actually was really into the Eternal for a week or two (I wouldn't say it stuck, though). Definitely a solid release, but nothing exceptional as a whole. 'Antenna' was surprisingly great (I'm surprised that Thurston can do vocals like that, then again, it is Sonic Youth), and a few other Kim tracks were great stuff, too.

I see what you're saying about Bad Moon Rising. I quite like it, but I definitely understand why it would not be liked by some -- It's often too identity-less for its own good. [stereotypical] I'll likely always see Daydream Nation as their greatest, most flawless, epic release, though. [/stereotypical]
 
Wow...you really need to listen to their other stuff. I post a lot of their music in my reviews. Their late 70's/early 80's work is their best.
 
I really love Saliva.Their latest work Cinco Diablo sucked though.It kind of has soft Rock,instead of Alternative,and hard rock songs.I still think their next CD will be good,I hope.

Though "Judgment Day" was one of the best song ever.

Overall, there's still some shining moments of brilliance, Tormato isn't anywhere near as bad people make it out to be, but it certainly signifies the point when Yes were really losing inspiration, so it was good that they opted for a pop direction, at least two good albums came out of that, the late 80s/early 90s stuff ranges from really bad to mediocre, and sometimes a good song pops up every now and then. But yeah, those were the dark ages. I think every Yes fan celebrated when Trevor Horn got canned and Howe and Wakeman were brought back.

Keys of Ascension 1 and 2 are good, The Ladder was decent and showed that the band started putting actual effort into their writing again, and Magnification is really underrated IMO and the first truly kickass studio effort from the band in a long time.
