Albums That People Gasp With Astonishment When You Tell Them You've Never Heard Them

I haven't heard any albums by Pulp, Blur, Suede, etc.

people seem surprised. I'm pretty sure I would like these banRAB if I checked them out, so i should do so.

A lot of the albums mentioned should be heard even if your not a fan of that particular artist.
Albums like 'What's Going On?', 'Live at the Apollo', 'Exile On Main Street' and 'Are You Experienced?' should get a listen at least for their historical context.

A while back I went on a classic album spending spree, buying up CD's that were considered classics irrespective of whether or not I was into them.
I was in for a few pleasant surprises and it opened up loaRAB of musical territory I wouldn't have otherwise explored.

To make you gasp with astonishment...never heard;
Prince - '1999'
Radiohead - 'OK Computer' (incredible, but true)
Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band - 'Trout Mask Replica'
Bruce Springsteen - 'Born in the U.S.A.' (not heard an album of his front to back yet)

And that's just the tip of the iceberg.
There's shedloaRAB of albums I'd love to hear and most of them considered classics.

Prince- Purple Rain
Frank Zappa-We're Only In it For The Money
The Velvet Underground & Nico-The Velvet Underground & Nico

Was talking to a fellow music nut @ work today and we were saying that It's virtually impossible to listen to EVERY band worth their salt, otherwise you would never do anything else. I have been listening to a lot of post rock lately so that's my excuse. Sorry rab -i'm off topic!

Never heard an album from Radiohead, The Smiths, The Beatles, Sonic Youth, as well as 99.99% of other highly regarded banRAB/artists who were releasing stuff back in the 70's, 80's, and 90's. Some I've obtained albums from, but just cbf/never get around to listening to them....

i havent heard anything from the smiths or radiohead or the cure or the clash or the ramones or blahblahblah
pretty much any band/artist that people speak highly of, i havent heard their stuff
but they sound like they'd be boring so

That's crazy.
I just don't see how you could like Pink Floyd based on just the radio cuts alone. Pink Floyd has so many great albums, even beyond the ones they get the most credit for (Dark Side Of The Moon, Wish You Were Here, The Wall). You really need to listen to one of them, ANY of them from the '60s or '70s, to be able to appreciate what the've done. I love Atom Heart Mother and Meddle, but be sure to listen to some of their stuff from back when Syd Barrett was the songwriter (Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, A Saucer Full Of Secrets, the Relics Compilation).

Anything Radiohead, Nirvana, Green Day, Weezer, 99% of music from the 90s and today.

I will gasp when people say they don't listen to the Beatles. It's insane.

People gasp at me when i havent heard Ludacris new album and other stuff.. i gasp at the idiots that have never heard of led zeppelin or pink floyd...

Indeed. I have that problem too... so much music to listen to in the world, not enough time. And I have a lot going on outside music-listening/reviewing/playing etc.
