I thought Platoon, Wall Street and Born On the Fourth of July were very good. JFK was pretty good too as long as you realise it's just revisionist entertainment and not a history lession. I think Stone started out good but JFK should have been his last film.

I think as a director he's talented, but he's always had a taste for over the top sensationalism. He made great films in the 80s. But once the 90s came around it seemed like he would attach his name to any controversial subject he could get his hanRAB on, just because he can.
 
I will, then, hold my opinion on a song that was clearly one of the most over-played songs on FM radio, and something that sounded (before I knew more about it) sounded a little too sentimental to my ears. I understand and that's cool with me that there's a personal inspiration behind the song, as well as a good vocal performance to match it.

EDIT: I agree, the John Paul Jones solo was a great moment.
 
Off topic question: How would you guys feel about matchups based only on name? In this case for example

Daydream Nation v. It would take a nation of millions to hold us back?

Normally I'd just do it but the last time someone around here posted something like that people got their panties in a bunch because "it was name only and that's stupid/"
