Album Wars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who said they were????

Is some joke flying over my head?... Retrackted must be a Cheap Trick song i guess... I wouldn't know, never been big on Cheap Trick... Though Dream Police is a guilty pleasure.

It's a really tough choice choosing between two of the greatest albums of the last 25 years and two real cornerstones in alternative rock. But since i have to choose one i choose Daydream Nation. It's grown on me more over the past few years than Doolittle, it just feels like there's something really special going on. The album flows so brilliantly and Thurston and Lee's guitar work is incredible on this epic album. The high watermark of Sonic Youth's career.

Doolittle 4
Daydream Nation 8

That's why I'm glad that Genesis never tried to replace him. The element he brought to the band was gone when he left but Genesis were smart enough to not try and imitate it. As much as I love the Gabriel stuff I do find the Phil stuff to be very underrated, the two Hacket albums are great and in fact Trick of the Tail is in my top 5 Genesis albums. The band did lose something special when Hackett left also, but Duke/Abacab/Genesis is a very strong trilogy of pop albums that prog fans unfairly discredit just because it's "not prog" and because "Gabriel and Hackett are gone". Pretty stupid reason to write off something that's even not attempting to relive the glory days.

I definitely disagree with people who think Gabriel WAS the band, Genesis were always an eserable group meaning every meraber counts and even when they lost Gabriel and Hackett and adopted a more pop structure that stayed true until their sound got REALLY watered down in the mid 80s and overly Phil oriented.

I also vote for Marvin, but nobody has mentioned "The Ecology", which imo is equally as good as "What's Going On" (which I find the more predictable). Although, I would argue that it probably wasn't the first time artistic freedom of expression had been granted to an artist. This had already been established as an issue prior to the mid-70's, as I'm sure Ga ye must have refered to this point. But I am in no way arguing or contesting its controversial nature, god I don't need a debate on my hanRAB...

Since I suggested it, they're two albums I love and I'm interested to see people's opinions but it's got to be In An Aeroplane Over The Sea for me.
