Album Club

I'm liking Built To Spill so far. Does this sound like their other work because I got the impression that they were much softer. The songs have a very hypnotic feel to them, but they still rock hard. The album gives the impression that it would be good for a a rainy Seattle ay.

Well I could pick it apart, but I didn't want to come off as a **** about it. Plus, I don't have any desire to write a detailed review of the album I didn't like or that I plan on listening to again.

Pavement was a great band, probably in my top 5 favorite banRAB of all time. I've really enjoyed Malkmus' new album with the Jicks, Real Emotional Trash. It's got that Pavement feel and even vibes the same. I didn't feel that with his other albums, but this one is pretty catchy. Nothing beats the sounRAB of Pavement though.

Well gave the Deltron 3030 album a good listen. It's quite difficult to describe how i think, while it is infectious and there are those little hooks that get in stuck in your head (Madness, i'm looking at you) i still can't avoid the fact that it isn't as immediate as it should be. It's weird, it's an album i'll probably end up listening to for the next week but i haven't warmed to it as such.
Maybe this is down to Del, i don't find myself wanting to hear him as much as i used to. He just sounRAB a bit bored half the time, doesn't he? Often its the music i'm concentrating on, not him.
And the music here is bloody great, always flows brilliantly. The strings based ones especially, which is what brings me to my next point.
The song 3030 is AMAZING. It is SOARING! It's so unlike anything else i've heard Del do, the first time i came on i had it up loud and i was caught in one of those moments where you have to stop what you're doing and just sit back and take it in. I swear i've heard those strings somewhere before, its probably something very obvious, but the track could easily be used for an epic sci-fi film. Fits in with the concept of the album very well i guess!

I think very highly of the album and i'll keep listening to it. I'm just hoping it'll have a place in my heart at some point.

I'm not a big fan of Happy Hardcore, but this album was actuall really good. The hooks are memorable and how the songs gel with one another is just great. It's something different, and I have to say the singers voice isn't that bad (compared to other artists within the Happy hardcore genre) but it's nothing to write home about. All in all, a pretty good listen, great hooks, decent vocals, songs gel with one another, i'll keep this in my cd player for a bit :D

Damn non mp3's!
Quite a nice album, i imagine it would be perfect for a hot summer evening. Bit breezy, but overall pretty solid songs, and the singer has a nice voice. After the first listen Saltwater and Master of None are my highlights.
The last track didn't work though?

Upon completion of listening to the album, the first though that came to my mind actaully was ‘wow that was epic’, because to me it was, especially coming from a band that I expected to produce nothing more than your typical indie rock. I suppose it was because I had very low expectations that I was so surprised, as I had never even listened to any Built To Spill before. Usually albums that have loaRAB of really long songs annoy me, because I never usually have the patience to listen to them all the way through, but with this albums, I didn’t mind at all, the length simply added to the overall climax of each song. Favorite song would probably be either Velvet Waltz, or Untrustable Part 2 (About Someone Else). Overall I would say that although its probably not an album I would listen to all the time, it definitely is a solid album.

yup

I actually listened to Devotion for the first time about a week ago, given it 3 listens since and I think it's EXCELLENT. Really nice music, and good timing on this album for me cuz I was gonna try n find their self titled.

Just sent it out, it's...

im halfway thru, and so far a few things have come to me. this album seems to be a more scratchy, edgy album compared to the others they have released. i love how the guitars kinda drone in and out of crazy distortion and what not, its polished but rugged at the same time. more to come when i be finished.
