Air Pressure in Shocks???

i just bought the progressive susoension one for $35. it is the same pump that hd sells. the only difference is the name on it. it goes up to 60psi.
i have the lowered hd shocks with about 30psi. im 250lb, no tour pak, rides great
 
I am so sick of hearing guys bitch about the $39.99 HD Pump.

I weigh 250lbs...She weighs probably 180...yes were porkers! Actually I'm 6'4 and we are just simply big people. So tack on probably at least another 50 pounds (at least of leathers, (not the cheap-light weight ones) laptop, GPS, snacks, etc...for two up extended touring, and I bet we weighed close to 500 lbs.

GET MY DRIFT??? the manuel is meaningless! We are over specs. So what now?

My HD manuel says like the rest of you guys, 18-30PSI depending on the load. So I jacked mine up to the 30 PSI setting using my HD Hand Pump. I can tell you, by the time I got home, the air had leaked to 28 PSI and the whole trip home I was thinking, 'Dammed if it doesn't feel like I need to pump it up a bit.' SO, IMHO next time I'm gonna jack it up to maybe 32 PSI and try that. I will say that at 30 PSI it definitely felt better than 28, gave a much more fluid feel when crossing over bridges, whoops in the road, and such that anything less than 30 was not enough to over come with the suspension.

So experiment with it. For those of you who have a Ultra with the tour pack, the owners manual has a spot to be stored...on the road, do your adjustments when you fill up with gas, and make notations as to how you perceived it to be...forget what everyone else says...figure this one out for yourself as everyone is different...WHY DO YOU THINK THEY MAKE IT ADJUSTABLE???

Again, boys, buy the pump...it works great, is 1st class quality, is designed for what exactly were taking about here, and $39.99 is a very fair price for a great tool like this.
 
That'd be too convenient. Us Dirt baggers would never approve. Besides that most of us seem to think $39.99 is too much to pay...what would a electric pump with a gauge on the dash cost?

It probably comes standard on Goldwings!
 
Tell us how you really feel.

I keep mine at 10psi, and lose about 2 psi from one year to the next. I also have the non HD pump sold by Progressive Suspension before HD made one.
 
Some of the information here is a little bit miss leading.

The newer tourers can go as high as 50 psi (check page 68 & 69 of owners manual for a 2010 SG). Older bikes I have been told not to exceed 35 psi. Check your manual with the weight you be riding at.

Also, I got the Progressive pump on eBay. Cheaper price, same pump, different color, works great. YOU NEED A PUMP. PERIOD.

I can use the gauge/pump with the saddlebag lid open. A little tight, but can be done. Remove the bag if you want and it is a lot easier.
