AIM messages count as Text Messages? TMobile

N8DBB...Ok To clarify I spoke with a Carlos at TMO about 5 mins ago and he stated that if you have the $9.99 unlimited text messaging bundle services then you should not be paying for text msgs or sending or receiving IM's; no matter what IM's services you are using whether it's the apps that come pre-installed or one you buy...they are considered text msgs...if you don't have the unlimited bundles that is a different story then you are gonna pay...but a suggestion call TMO and find out because sometimes you can speak to 2 or 3 CSR in 1 day and you are given different info...if so ask to speak to a supervisor....

Get this I currenntly use t mobile mda i do not have the data plan but i do however use my home wireless network to access the internet. When I long onto the yahoo messenger with my own wireless network and text tmobile is charging for that text. Does anyone have any advice?
Thanks

~~Posted via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~~I have Cingular with unlimited data plan and they do the same. They treat IMs as text messages and charge me since I do not have a text messaging plan. I was told I can pin message without being charged.

saul972 - I know nothing about the mda but I would think your phone can only log in via your phone service, even if you have a home network. I could be wrong. Call Tmo and ask.

Mellisaox--- the mda has wi-fi and i have a wireless network so i'm able to connect to it.

jaxplanner---- i'm sorry but what is a pin message

Ah, but they can tell:

From my T-Mobile online message usage statistics:

8/20/07 INCOMING 3:36 PM 508 1
8/20/07 INCOMING 3:36 PM 507 1
8/16/07 A I M Message 7:13 PM 4671 1
8/16/07 A I M Message 7:13 PM 4671 1
8/15/07 INCOMING 4:42 PM 508-721-9477 1
8/15/07 INCOMING 7:54 AM 802-438-0712 1

The first two were web based messages
The second two were inbound and outbound AIM messages
The last two were obviously phone to phone txt messages (numbers have been changed to protect the innocent).

I too was very angry to discover I was paying for unlimited data but my AIM messages were being sent as SMS texts.

I got around getting charged for any more text messages that are sent to my phone by going to my.t-mobile.com and setting up a text message filter with forwarding. Just filter the 'To' field to include the last for digits of your phone number, and forward all txt messages to your email address (assuming you've paid for an unlimited data plan but not a txt plan like me).

The person who sent you the text gets a message saying it was undeliverable, but you can surprise them with a reply...

My very first T-Mobile bill, ni lie, was like 500 dollars because i didnt know AIM counted towards texting! They were very rude on the phone about it too. That was my first and only bad experience with them.

a $85 unlimited everything except phone minutes bill is better than a restricted $100 phone bill...food for thought..think of it as buying any type of insurance...pay for it up front so you don't get shafted later

Well thanks to rabroad I learned this BEFORE I racked up a huge bill and changed my text message plan. ~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~

well it you have the 8320 the AIM, YAHOO, MSN, GOOGLE TALK, and ICQ no longer count as text messages, just data usage...keep that in mind for any big instant messanger, and you can go on all of them at the same time, unlike before.... hope that helps out. I was able to lower my text messaging plan from unlimited to 1000. saves me 5 bucks a month

I have my AIM set up on IM forwarding (since IM puts nothing but spyware on your computer anymore), and all IMs I get come thru as texts...
