Just figured this would be an interesting piece of news
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-11-27/aic-to-replace-gonzo-on-2nd-strike-witches-season-updated

Wonder if this would slow down FUNi if they were interested in getting the sequel?

Well, first off it hinges on the original series doing well (but probably not so well that the Japanese right holders think they can dramatically bump the price - even if it does solidly, it's still a niche title and not worth FMA/DBZ money.) Beyond that, it's question of who Funimation really dealt with to get the first series. Since we are seeing a studio switch, there is probably some tertiary company that actually owns the rights to the property, and while Gonzo might have been a catalyst to connect Funi with this(these) rights holder(s,) the fact it's now a different studio won't change the now existent relationship between Funi and said rights holder(s).

The last good thing AIC did was Seto no Hanayome. Everything else since has been

Otherwise, they are basically just a level up than GONZO.

Except her eyes are just as huge in the manga, and they've been very accurate to the source (dark-shadow panty-shots and all.)

I haven't seen much Beetrain, but Satelight's done good work with Frontier and Aquarion which are recent.

I was hoping it just wouldn't be made, but at least it won't come from Gonzo? Why does that matter? Simple. If it was by Gonzo, Crunchyroll and FUNimation would both have to get it. Now they probably both will, since they both have the first season, and just because it's not by Gonzo doesn't mean they won't get it, but I'd like to think FUNimation at least won't, even though Crunchyroll probably will. I guess we just have to hope the first season doesn't sell for crap when FUNimation releases it. Plus I have a stronger attachment to Gonzo than AIC. On the other hand, this means there's nothing planned from Gonzo in 2010. While I wasn't happy with the Strike Witches sequel being their only upcoming work, at least that meant they were still going to stick around...

Yeah, a lot of people are calling time of death for Gonzo as an animation studio, which seems presumptuous, but with nothing yet slated for the year, and the fact that the new anime per season is hitting lows that suggests there just won't enough work for so many studios, that, well news isn't good in Japan, not just at Gonzo.

As far as AIC making it trickier to pick up, don't forget Funi has Tenchi and related properties. The issue won't be the company, it'll be whether it'd be profitable to buy more, which we won't know until at least the middle of next year.

Tis a shame if Gonzo is going bye bye. They do have some excellent work in their cannon amiRABt all the refuse. Then again, a lot of their great stuff is co-pros with other studios and/or not original work.

I think that's part of the whole GDH reformation. Still, even if they get through this, the talent has largely been fired/bailed to other companies. The bubble has burst, and well, they aren't going to be doing the machine gun fire production of shows again any time soon. No studio will be I think.

AIC will pretty much have no problem with this, and as Wheatherman said, they have done hentai, they even animated Girls Bravo, so it fits them naturally.

As lifted gently from Wikipedia...

Also, "Samurai Harem: Asu no Yoichi"......."Burn Up"......"Goshūshō-sama_Ninomiya-kun"...."Virgin Fleet"....wow, that have done a lot of paying the bills series of late.

Have I ever mentioned that I really miss the old-school days of cell animation, especially AIC cell animation?*sigh*

The switch to AIC isn't a problem from an animation perspective. They do good work, and so long as they don't use their Spirits division (which seems to be their "B" studio, at least if "Tokko" is any indication), the second season should look fine. Let's not forget that Full Metal Panic certainly didn't suffer when switching from Gonzo to Kyoto.

Of course, that doesn't say anything about whether the scripts will be good. That's something different entirely.
