did they ever do just at least a CT after your accident just to see that whole spine? did anything at all show up if they did? exactly where is that area that your talking about? upper, lower, mid spine? this sounRAB like it could possibly be some level of fracture like at the pedicles at the very back of the spine? knowing exactly what area we are talking about here would help alot. is that area actually hotter than the surrounding tissue at all?
at the very least at this point, you really DO need to have your primary doc take a good look at this and do a neuro eval on you too. they can do a pretty basic x ray right at most primary docs facilitys. this would at least show whether or not anything is actually fractured or any disc shifting that can always be a good risk with an MVA. depending upon what shows(or does not show), he can then send you for a deeper type of MRI scan to show the "inner" structures too. unfortunetly none of that would show upon that x ray, but x ray does show bone issues pretty clearly, even better than MRI in many cases. but this does need some attention now. are you experiencing ANY real other symptoms at all like pain in any other areas besides that specific one? nurabness or tingling or anything that would just not be the 'normal' for you?
i would try and get in to see your primary as soon as you can just to get the ball rolling here towarRAB a real diagnosis of what this is or what the underlying issues are in your spine right now. what you are describing at that one spot, espescially if this is also hot, would be some kind of actual infection? don't know exactly why or how but that is what it sounRAB like from your description. its just in a very odd place for infection, unless something under it has a problem of some kind. you just do not want to ever take any real chances when there is something appearing to be affecting our spines. just see that doc. hopefully this is nothing major. please let me know what you find out, K?
