Hello! I have owned a 86 dodge ram for about a month now.
It's standard and has 50,000 original miles on it.
About three weeks ago the "EGR" light has come on and stayed on even though I cleaned out the carburetor (sp?) and the little gas filter thingie that's on the left inside, near the tire wall. I also checked the oil, added some and got the gunk out of the gas filter. And ran it to as close to E as I could get and filled it with some good gas.

It's losing power still though, especially when going up-hill, in 5th gear and doesn't have the "oomph" it had when first starting up into 1st gear and 2nd gear.

Any help's appreciated! What's causing this possibly? What can I do to fix it... etc?
Thanks! if you read this, where's the egr valve?
Forgot to add- the filters are clean and/or new from when I bought it... and it's puffing out dark smoke periodically for like a week now... it had nothing like that before!

Did you replace the EGR valve?

thats nice that you cleaned the carb, but the EGR valve is a different thing altogether.

It mixes exhaust gasses back into the intake (its a SMOG thing), but when it goes bad, it opens when it should not or closes when its supposed to be open, causing poor running.
