Agendus buzzing and beeping but not....

My Agendus is buzzing and beeping like normal but for some reason when it buzzes or beeps or both it won't pop up the message/reminder, because of this it waits 5 mins and buzzes and beeps again but still no message and I can't turn the damn thing off except for going in and deleting the appointment. Moose, Paul, everyone Help ME!

1. Are these meetings one-time or recurring?
2. Is the alarm set to go off before the meeting and for all of them?
3. Have you run dbScan to look for "errant crappy records?"

If answer to all 3 is yes, I'd say you're the victim of the "bug that won't go away" and there's plenty of talk about it on the Iambic Forum under "bug reports."

Apparently this has been going on since 8.02 and people are P***** off all over the place.

Now - I had a problem with the thing crashing every time I went to Feburary 2005 in month view, and exited the program. Crash. Turned out to be a corruption in the Calendar DBase, which I outright DELETED and "re-oplumbed" stuff in.

Mooseman gave me the tip there saying it could be a corrupt Icon or glitch "somewhere" -- and he was right -- deleted that dbase and all was well. I don't use alarms and especially in Agendus for that reason - heard too many stories like yours. Some have tried reinstalling the app and fixed it that way.

"Paul in the sky" Teal Lover will now defer you to "Grand Master Moose" for additional "real info" from a BETA TESTER for AGendus - if anyone can be more definitive it's him!!

Seth,

Do you have security settings turned on? I'm not having any issues with either the T3 or the Treo (running both in parallel) while I'm spending my last 24 hours in Hawaii.

Typically, the security settings will prevent Agendus from opening when beeping. If not then........

I would next suspect an errant program conflict. Either with BugMe or some other software that also modifies or sets alerts.

I don't believe the problem to be unique to Agendus since I'm not running into any problems on either platform.

Let's face it - there are well over 20,000 programs for the Palm platform and there are bound to be conflicts.

OK, I ran a quick test while typing this and set an alarm on the T3 with security on and it worked fine. The device showed the Agendus alarm - tapped ok and then took me to the security log in.

I'd venture to guess it's a conflict with another software program that controls alarms. Remnants of a test of Datebk5 or something else.

I think the only way to be certain would be to check each suspect program one at a time by removing all remnants and running a test of the Agendus alarm. Between tests be certain to soft reset the device to clear memory and try.

If you want to list your software titles I'd give suggestions but look for alarm altering software.

I had the same problem with the alarms. When the alarms went off, I received fatal errors and was forced to reset. When I tapped on the reset button, nothing happened. I had to do a soft reset with my stylus.

I got rid of the problem by uninstalling Datebk 5, dbscan, and Agendus, before reinstalling the latest version of Agendus. I did not reinstall Datebk 5 or its icon collection. I also did not install Iambic Mail nor the icon collections. I have been using Versamail and SMS Messenger as the default communication applications. I have not had any alarm problems since.

Here's my program list and there is another program problem look at the italic.

Well it's definitely in the calendar application section.

Here's what I'd recommend first.

Go to the Palm Desktop, chose Tools menu, then options, then click on the tools tab. There you'll see a Check and repair any corrupted records.....then click on the check now button.

You may or may not see anything get repaired as I don't use the Palm Desktop and don't remember from when I did.

If that doesn't fix the issue then export the calendar to a csv file and delete the calendar from the Palm Desktop and from the handheld. Then open the CSV file in Excel and review it for any obvious issues such as the proverbial @@@ or any other corrupted potential issues.

Clean it up and then reimport it and then you can hotsync and you should be good to go.

now it's not even beeping or buzzing outside the program. the minute i go into Agendus I get a beep but no dialog box. I did your tool idea but it found no errors because supposivly I just corrected them with dbscan. I really don't want to do the whole export/delete thing. Anyother ideas? Is there anyplace where i can get the previous release of agendus 8? that might fix the problem?

errr.
This is p$%%&^&% me off

That's the same S>O>B> that was messed up on me.

I have posted here on the issue (about a week ago) and mentoined it (I think) above . . .

Moose's idea about "salvaging" by cleaning it up in Excel is very clever -- I also read on the Iambic Forum that if you set to "desktop overwrites" it will clean it up (sometimes) but I PERSONALLY didn't have the patience.

I had entered something as a "test alarm" for February, and deleted it. But sometimes that "@@@" crap or worse is left behind - except you can't EDIT the notes section because you've got nothing to "select" to "open." Maybe that's where MMs excel master plan comes in. Cool.

I just DELETED THE WHOLE thing and re-entered calendar appointments. Sounds archaic, but if you open your desktop OR handheld and manually WRITE DOWN the important stuff (!!??!!) and just delete it at least problem's cleared.

This may have something to do with the PIMS upgrade released for the T3 from PalmOne a couple of weeks ago. It claims to "improve PIMS communication with desktop," but I thought it was just for OUtlook users. In any case, dwinget also has a point about the Datebk5 and ICONS issue - that reared its ugly head with me too.

The bottom line is IT CAN BE FIXED - I just "cut the head off the thing" rather than try to salvage it. I first COPIED with TealMover to a folder on the card I call "Apps Archive" and deleted it. Problem went away - no crashing in February of 2005. I knew I had it then, so just went ahead and re-entered stuff. Pain I know - but if you've auditioned as many datebook/calendar apps as I did (during my "I'm P.O.'d at Iambic" phase a month ago), you're bound to have alarm issues and possibly more caused by "little notations" that shouldn't be there any more.

O' Seth:

Did you notice this little error? This is typically caused by some corruption in the saved or unsaved preferences. And this may be the underlying cause of the problem.

What to do, what to do?

Soft reset the device and attempt another sync and see if the same error message shows up. If it does, delete the Fitaly 3 skin you've got hovering in there: at least I think that's what it is.....

Although F3 is a good application - it caused me nothing but issues on the T3 and hence was removed.

Moose,

Thanks! Some how I fixed it. Whoohooo. When I figure out what exactly I did, I'll let everyone know.

Thanks to everyone who offered advise!

-Seth

Ok,

Good, why don't you post your "fixed" hot sync log and the one previous to it being fixed and I'll advise.

There were several items in the previous one you posted that were alarming to me such as the F3, Agendus buttons and system sync failure.

I'm stuck in Hawaii for a while longer due to delayed flight. So it'll be Friday before you'll see a response.

I have tried the "check and repair records" button and simply get an "attempted web connect" but nothing happens.

Does Palm Desktop email your records to someone?
How do you know the records are "fixed?" There is no confirmtn.

Before I saw this thread on Agendus, it was recommended to me by a friend whom has a T2; he raved about the program and said it works fine. So wanting a better contact manager than what came with my T3, I decided to down load a trial version of Agendus and install it. I love the look and functions of Agendus, but I am having similar problems. If I set a meeting time and a reminder alarm, the alarm will sound, the reminder window comes up, sometimes blank other times with some info and then if I tap on GO TO, the PDA freezes and I have to reset. I have not installed many programs since getting the T3, so I don?t think I should have any conflicts. I have added my last hotsync info, so can anyone shed anymore light on this problem before I go and purchase it. I use the meetings and to do alarm regularly.
