Agendus 9.03 out

I think I am going to wait before upgrading. The Iambic forums are full of complaints about the 9.03 release. The complaints range from registration code problems to being stuck with a generic icon in calendar view without an option to disable it.

I'm not too concerned about the icon problem. It is the registration code that has me worried. Users claim that even though they enter the new code, the program keeps prompting them to reenter it. I don't want to open a can of worms on my T3 by upgrading too soon.

just 'upgraded' (sorry Paul!!)

It is buggy as hell IMHO. I have found four new problems and two that have persisted from 8.06. I just never learn!!

There does not seem to be any registration issues if you install both Agendus 9.03 and Iambic Mail 4.2 (at least for me!).
I had some problems initially when I only installed Agendus...
Hope it helps

Aaaah . . . it takes "Mail." Going from one full MEG (8.06) to 1.5 MEG for a calendar will leave you buggy . . . it's going to TWO MEG that fixes it.

Oh, okay. Well, at 3MB it should be reaaalllly good . . . . .

Good Lord.

As the self-proclaimed master of Agendus, I can't upload the program until I get home on Sunday because of travelling.

I've always found that the program to be useful but sometimes buggy especially in installation.

It can be a pain but I have found the best way to install it is to do it clean...unistall the previous version and all remants and then save your icon file and reinstall the program from the "clean" upload.

And before I hear a lot of naysayer's telling me that they shouldn't have to....more and more programs and their developers are realizing that this is the best way to go. Either on the Palm OS platform or for that matter Windows.

And since Agendus is still being written for OS 3.5 devices then your asking for trouble for all of the variants out there with regards to devices.

I'll post more when I get a chance to download and install.

Hey Moose...

Ill be interested to see how you find this version. I did do a clean install but have several problems.

1. Wallpaper still doesnt work, hasnt since i went from 8.05 to 8.06pro

2. There is a confirmed bug when using the d-pad to move along in the week view

3. I still cant make makespot colour days in the expanded month view - works on the other modes

4. In any month view, go to date doesnt work (just found that one)

5. Most annoying for me is that I cant have agendus mail on the card (another 0.5Mb RAM down the toilet) any more. Agendus doesnt seem to pick up the ZLauncher shortcut. Worked fine in 8.06

There is also a new 'feature' that applies a horrible calendar icon to events that have not been assigned and icon by the user. Thius has caused a great deal of angst on the iambic forum..cant say it really worries me but it is a bit silly.

Overall it is stable, no problem with alarms and such like, none of the registration problemss that others have experienced. Some of the new bells and whistles are good, others (like the tinysheet features) are fluff imho.

let us know how you fare oh great one...

some more problems...

6. If I cycle views, going from today to 7-day view always takes me to the 'block' view even though the tools drop dialog is stil set to the 5-day grid setting. Tapping the 5-day grid setting makes no difference and I have to tap some other setting and then go back to it to get it to reappear (hope this is clear). This is only true for the new 5-day grid, all the others appear to be fine.

7. Tap and hold doesnt work at all in the expanded month view or the quarter view (is it supposed to??)

stay tuned.

Steve,

Noticed your post in the Iambic Forum:

I did an overwrite install on my T5 with no issues but was prepared to do a "clean" if necessary.

To answer your questions in the two posts here:

1. Wallpaper has worked for me on all Palm Devices so I wonder if you have some sort of "viewer" that's in conflict.

2. I haven't seen the confirm of the d-pad in week view yet but I'm still jet lagged....I'll explore more.

3. Makespot seems fine on both the Treo 600 and T5 in expanded mode.

4. Go to date - works fine on my T5

5. I don't use Agendus mail so haven't tried it on the card or tried a work around but as memory serves - you are correct they have never configured it to work from the card.

Icon's - I actually prefer to have a "default" icon if I don't pick one for say an "unfiled" event. It is split on the forum - to be able to select a default icon would be better. I don't like the fact that Datebook 5 sets icon's globally when changing from one for a category to another.

The icon's that they are using appear to be for Pocket PC devices and I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see Iambic enter into that market now that Sony is out 100%.

6. I made the same settings as you did with regards to block view in the week.....mine works as designed.

7. Tap and Hold is not designed to work in expanded or quarter view.

None of the above is going to help you and is sometimes in conflict with what your seeing. This is all too common with Agendus but in defense of Iambic, I think it's more related to either conflicts with the various versions of the Palm OS and or other programs.

I don't know how anyone can write code to all of the devices out there and be 100%.

I'd make one suggestion:

When experiencing problems either with Iambic products or anyone else's - I will unistall that suspected program and then delete the saved-preferences.prc file from the handheld.

This will cause loss of all registered programs to hold their registrations but it also purges the corrupt data and settings from the errant program.

Double check your wallpaper settings and also read the section in the manual about the size and location of where the wallpaper is supposed to go....the path is very specific unlike other programs especially if you are storing it on the card.

I'll play some more in the next couple of days and see if I come across some other isssues.

Send a request to Iambic tech support as well as posting it in the forum. You'll often get a quicker response from their tech support then you will from simply posting it in the forum.
