Here are the fixes to version 8.05. And my alarm issues were fixed on the Treo so hopefully everyone can better enjoy this beta program.

What's new in version 8.05

Improvements
Tungsten T/T2: corrected photo display problems on Tungsten units in 8 bit color mode when a JPG image (16 bit) is selected
Tungsten T3: now redraws the alarm dialog after using the CHOOSE DATE option in the alarm dialog to account for known save behind bug of T3
Tungsten T3/TE/Zire 72: completing repeating to dos while preferences for RECORD COMPLETION DATE is enabled will update the date on this to do to the next instance
Cycling views via hard button while mail button is a selected view for cycling and the preferred email application is not Agendus Mail will now launch that email application. Note: it's not possible to continue cycling views if Agendus is not the running application.
Improved stability of the SEND functionality for sending to dos and calls via Exchange Transport
Improved validation checking for alarm sounds that are not in the system sound database. This will correct issues with a simple sound playing on an alarm that was originally set to a ring tone on Treo or possibly other device.
Japanese: Removed a few extraneous characters from the menus
Text of private to dos and calls is no longer displayed when security set to hide or mask and alarm notification appears when Agendus is not the running application
Corrected an issue that could cause instability on some devices when an alarm on a private event went off and Agendus was not the running application.
Next alarm field of the Today view now shows PRIVATE MEETING, CALL or TO DO if the next alarm is for a private meeting, call or to do and security is set to HIDE.
Position in to do view now retained after opening then closing or completing a to do.
Contact photo problem in card view when scrolling between contacts with and without photos now fixed
Quotation text in the today view on Sony devices with a certain length of quotation and data was causing part of the quote to show on the toolbar
Treo 600: dpad left multiple times while in the contact history view could cause a failure
Added security password dialog when using dpad tap and hold on a masked record in the list view and selecting open from the popup menu
Tungsten T3: the system find can now find location information in Agendus
Sony Clie models with SIP: the SIP panel is now raised automatically when opening the alarm dialog on a meeting, call or to do
Tungsten T3: corrected display of wallpaper when system Prefs > Handedness is set to left
Tungsten all models: Added support for pressing dpad left when no table item is selected to exit the contact history dialog

Hi Moose,

you seem a little happier than your recent post on the iambic forum would suggest and thats good. There really are some major issues with this version that need to be resolved. Nevertheless, it works well on my TT and I (somewhat grudgingly) just stumped up $20 for the 7.06 -> 8.05 Pro upgrade.

Just been playing with AgendusMail4.0...still a bit clunky IMHO but a lot better than I remember iambicMail being....Did you beta test this??

I will still probably stick with Versamail for the moment but the integration of AM with agendus itself has advantages..Hope 8.05 and your Treo continue to play nicely together....:)

Cheers

Steve

Yes I played with Iambic Mail 4.0. And I agree it's a bit chunky and will continue to use the default mail program on the Treo for now. Don't get me wrong - the Iambic Mail program seems to be much improved but because of the Treo's builtin Mail program being every bit as good - why have two programs?

Agendus 8.05 seems to have solved all of my issues. I've been playing with it since Thursday evening and it's much better and I haven't found any issues.....at least on the Treo.

I'm betting that Iambic mail will go a long way towards helping Iambic overall but now what used to differentiate the Pro versison of Agendus versus the Standard is no longer the case. Now your supposed to buy the mail segement seperately if you want it. And it used to be bundled.

But I must admit that Iambic actually listened to me and others by allowing the Pro version to be affiliated with a mail program other than Iambic's mail so that I can jump to the Treo Mail program and not eat up memory.

I'm just wondering what long term focus Iambic is going to have in the market place because of the demise of many of their other programs......what will the outcome be?

But I am still a loyal fan of the program but sometimes not of the company ;) based upon their recent marketing approach to upgrades and now this mail program.

Hi Moose

dont quite understand what you say about the Pro vs Standard with regard to AM?? AM4.0 is bundled with Pro as far as I can tell although there is no desktop component (is that what you were referring to??)

Cheers

ps.....i just noticed that wallpaper doesnt work any more in 8.05
'error - cant save wallpaper' or something like that. No crash tho so I guess thats something!! Ill post it on the Agendus form when I am absolutely sure its not an SOS-error!!

Unbelievable....

Yes the desktop component is not bundled with the handheld....I should have been clear on that. Again, it's not a big deal anyway, for me.

I'll check the wallpaper but that's also not a big deal to me.

I also just got confirmation that we (our company) is migrating to Goldmine so most of the Agendus mail issues will go by the wayside.

Wallpaper seems to be working on the Treo....another T issue?

Got in late last night from a trip, and just now downloaded, upgraded and tested 8.05 - Wallpaper fine on my T3. I notice I still DO NOT need to load Iambic Mail to run Agendus Pro (whew!) and if I hit that button I get message saying "no mail client . . . go pick one." Iambic Mail was included in the downloaded zip - but does it need to be on the desktop too? I remember reading the other day Iambic Mail is INCLUDED for Agendus Pro users. Is this changing?

Curiously, TealMover still shows the version No. as 8.04, but that's moot (I guess) since OPTIONS/ABOUT Agendus shows 8.05, build 434.

Most important in this post, however:

Those of you with TealMover: You might do as I did and mark "file info," then look at where it says "default" next to the word "stack." That "default" is 3300 bytes. I CHANGE mine to 6000. This avoids crashes when using desktop accessories while Agendus is running. Some apps (usually viewers) have much higher than the 3,300 under stack request; I feel Agendus should too and it might help some of you especially when you're getting "busy" like changing a to-do to a meeting, WHILE setting an alarm, and THEN bringing up a pop-up calc or other DA; it boosts the initial stack request for the app to open, and 6000 is not too high, but higher than the default. You will get a message saying "no file exists for this change - do you wish to create?"

Check yes.

Otherwise, no problems yet with 8.05 other than the version # not registering with TealMover or TomCatalog. Now I will dash off and read Mooseman's Iambic post!

Apparently, if you buy Agendus Mail 'for a limited time' you get Pro free....well, I have to say, without Pro bundled this is a pretty expensive piece of kit...$39.95 seems very steep.....jeez, which Id bought some shares in Iambic a few years ago....;)

Steve,

The pricing might be an indication of the wheels falling off trying to generate cash since they've dropped so many other programs. And since they seem to be down to just a couple of developers/moderators, my guess is that they are looking to "sell". This is pure speculation on my part.

Since Datebk has been incorporated into most of the latest Handspring devices (aka Treo and Visor's) they are probably making a run to be purchased either by Palm Source or form some sort of alliance with Palm One, which might be difficult sine Palm One may continue with the Datebk versions in future editions of the Treo.

The latest edition of Docs to Go is most assuredly going to be incorporated into any high end Palm One devices and Iambic needs something to compete and get a "residual" income from, IMHO.

The Iambic/Agendus Mail program is good but it's too little to late. It should of been out over a year ago based upon the IMAP client.

I'm WAG'ing but that's my guess.

I expect that we will see another version of Agendus before year end with upgrade charges again based upon the Features and Request segment of the Forum....unless they penetrate the inclusion into hardware segment I mentioned.

I am thinking about getting the Pro version so that I can link multiple contacts. Do you think they will make any radical changes to the program in the next release which will make me later regret getting this version instead of waiting? If I make the purchase now, I don't want to pay for an update anytime soon.

When you said Iambic is migrating to Goldmine, are you saying they will stop developing for Palm OS devices? Do you think the next release of Agendus will be the last?

PTL,

hate to tell granny about sucking eggs and all that but just in case you missed it, you can assign any mail app to the mail button provided the app is in RAM of course. So I could assign Versamail or AM. Of course there is no real intergration with the 3rd party apps. Same for SMS. If no mailer or sms app available then it just carries on as usual...

I have been playing with AM and maybe its not too bad..

Dwinget: First of all, at least it's STABLE right now, and if features are added it might create new nightmares. I think you're better off getting 8.05 NOW and skipping later "versions/betas" rather than waiting and possible inheriting more problems with a newer one.

I think if you COPIED that post and emailed Iambic the response might be interesting - it's finding out who to "get it to." I think Iambic should read your words, word for word, and maybe they'd get the hint (beyond my ranting on their forum) that THEY ARE LOSING CUSTOMERS because of these practices. How many more like YOU are saying, "errrr . . . . looks good but . . . . hmmmmm."

They've worked themselves into a corner, dropped products, refused to even ANSWER forum messages on bug reports, and keep charging. It's like an electronic Amway salesman in your T3, and we're all destined to be "diamond distributors."

I paid the $$$ and got 8.04 PRO, upgraded yesterday to 8.05. It's pretty "rockin'."

SOS and I have had a good laugh at what will be offered in 9.0 - but frankly I think OS6 compliance (???) is priority now - I'm wondering since I DID PAY the upgrade, if Cobalt compliance will be "extra" should I buy an OS6 device (probably not).

It's a good question, but my hunch would be BUY IT NOW and make due with present version if there is an "upgrade ripoff" in the future. And now for a small, lowkey rant:

I remember Iambic sending me a snotty message a few months back when I mentioned OS6, saying something to the effect of ""Well, WE'VE been aware of OS6 for almost a year . . ."

Well make the f*****g thing work then! It sure hasn't up to now, you cocky bastards. Complaints are ignored (even MOOSEMAN's notations were ignored 26 days - I mean talk about morons) and this constant upgrade cost is just a JOKE and (in my opinion) should be downright illegal.

"Waiter! Glass of wine for the lady, and more thorazine for me, please. Ahhh, thank you."

It's buying DATEBK5 that's supposed to support gorillas, right? I think we're supporting plenty of them sending it to Iambic . . . problem is . . . . THEY'RE PROGRAMMING. Actually, the programming is fine and 8.05 WORKS much better . . . perhaps I should say THEY'RE RUNNING MARKETING.

Hey Man! Nonsense! It's pushing 3AM and I'm just gettin' warmed up.

Now I must don my cape, board by magic invisible flying mousepad, and prowl the streets of Southern Cal looking for people with JackFlash problems.

"No need to fear. If you would take two steps backwards, Madam, I'll administer TealPaint!"

We're here all week . . . try the Veal!!

Thanks for your replies. I think I will do as suggested and take the leap. I discovered one other option to avoid short-term future upgrading costs. They have a one year subscription for $14.95 which will allow you free upgrades for a one year period. I know it's an upgrade cost. But it is lower than $29. There is also a chance you might download more than one time. What do you think? Here is a link to the details:

Well, I finally did it. I purchased both Agendus Pro and the 1 year subscription. Now, I need to learn how to use it. The navigation is a little different than Datebk 5. I will probably leave both programs on my T3, especially while I am in the transition. Thanks for your help.

:)

If you start getting resets remember that Datebk5 puts @@@@@ into the notes or memo fields of each icon occurence. These @@@ will cause Agendus to reset the device from time to time - this is the only issue that is known about running both programs at the same time.

I'd also recommend using only one Icon database for Agendus - you can use multiples but then it gets tough keeping track of them. You can use Icon Manager to move items in and out without much difficulty.

If you have questions - ask, I've been using it for years and have figured out most of the stuff, although don't ask me about Wallpaper. Too much memory hog IMHO.

Thanks for the info about the @ symbols. I have hardly used the icons in Datebk 5. I found that it was an extra step to take when I needed to quickly enter appointments.

Speaking of icons, I noticed that Agendus can use the same icons as Datebk 5. I have also configured Agendus to use Versamail as the default email app and SMS Manager as the default SMS app. I am glad it has that flexibility.

Once again, thanks for your help.
