Agendus 8.04 Released

2 questions.

1. I have version 8.0 is there a reason for me to upgrade to version 8.4?

2. I pruchased ver 8 two months ago will there be a charge to update?

moose will most likely respond to this but..

1. There are a slew of bug fixes, and new features. If you dont want the latter and you havent had any problems, then maybe not.

2. AFAIK, you wont have to pay for these minor updates (ie 8.XX).

From the Iambic Forum:

Hi All,

thanks Moose for spotting this user error and clarifying here for everyone .

I'm considering the issues reported here user errors, and pass over the colorful and constructive comments about our testing procedures and professionally ... if anyone still has real problems with todo alarms please follow up.

- Adriano

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I will grant you that Iambic has been having some issues with version 8.0+ and some of us that post on the Bug Reports forum were rather critical. I'm not going to say that any program is perfect but I can say that my dealings with all of the developers over there have been positive and friendly.

The above response from Adriano - the principle code'er was because several people had downloaded 8.04 and just blasted it because alarms were not working.

FACT: Alarms can not be set within in the next 15 minutes. They will not go off. This is a function of the Palm OS and the 4 core applications.

I simply pointed this out to the "thread" and several people had to eat their words because they started complaining, incorrectly.

Anyway - I'm just trying to expand everyone's awareness about the 15 minute alarm issue within the core applications.

Paul and SoS, thanks for posting the links and advising him in my absence.

Maybe I should change my name to PalmAgendusLover.
;)

Thanks for getting back to me I updated from 8 to 8.4 and and it works much better, it really took care of a lot of problems.

Am I to understand then that if you don't use alarms AT ALL, irrespective of the "15 minutes or less thing," that ALL IS GOOD WITH 8.04?

Anyone find any other problems? I'm not being cynical (I'M NOT I'M NOT I'M NOT!!!), but for example I tried ClipPro 1.6 (new, over 1.5) and it immediately caused 4 fatals - Crash indicated each time it was "exceeds lock manager handle" or something in the log -- bye bye 1.6!! Too bad too, it had improvements.

If 8.04 is better than 8.0 or 8.03, and the only thing is 15 minute-away alarms (like you need those every day anyway) . . . then we'll have to take our hats off to Agendus for fixing MOST or ALL of the "T3 bugs." I notice that the TREO improvments were MANY and varied . . . they probably have Mooseman to thank for that input, huh??!! Cool.

Is the general opinion out there that 8.04 is "solid?" I haven't checked the Iambic forum, as I've got my hands full as far as "other far inferior forums" goes with the idiots at mozilla firefox.

My God, it makes me even MORE grateful we've all got THIS FORUM -- if you want a lesson in why cousins shouldn't BREED, check out the stem-cell specimens at mozilla sometime . . . with a bottle of Cuervo 1800 VERY CLOSE AT HAND. I might "peruse" the Iambic one - or more importantly (IMHO) try and contact "Lee" in Customer Support over there - he always was responsive to me and seemed like he was "cookin' with gas."

Thanks for the example of you setting them straight, Mooseman - I know first hand from being "Brayder's legal counsel" that you often get people going off when they're upset about a "bug;" however, Iambic has brought some short tempers to fruition and boiling point over these incessant and EXPENSIVE upgrades, often for naught.

There haven't been any reports of new issues. Most of the people though hadn't upgraded to 8.04. There is one report of the alarm failure still occuring on a T3 but with a French localized version. One other person is still complaining about alarms but hasn't upgraded to 8.04 and they aren't listening to the posts.

I'm not going to say it's solid but I have no complaints and I've ran it through the usual tests so therefore so far it's acceptable.

I had some stability issues that have since been rectified. One of the instabilities of Agendus has always been wrapped around the icons. I've found that if the icons placed into the note field get a string of @@@@@@@@@@@@@ in the coding then you'll get some instability. This really started to occur in Version 7 when you could have multiple icon sets.

Well - I removed all of these errant @ and have complete stability although it took me most of the weekend.

I think the Treo since it's low res, is more susceptable to this kinda stuff. I also beleive that I traced the errors to using Monthly Planner on top of Agendus.

But 8.04 seems stable now that I've played with it after it's been fixed by me.
