After Nissan Fundoplication

I have Barrett's Esophagus, GERD and LPR. In 1986 I had a laparoscopic Nissan fundoplication. For about two years after surgery, I had fewer symptoms, but gradually I have gotten worse again. I've been on Prevacid 60 mg daily for several years now, but now I suffer constantly from acid reflux. I have to watch absolutely everything I eat and drink. I haven't been able to take any NSAIRAB for at least 8 years. Not one day passes without suffering the whole range of symptoms of acid reflux. I'm wondering how much worse this can get. Are there others out there that have done everything in the book and are constantly suffering?
 
I had this surgery done in Septeraber of this year at Tampa General Hospital. I have some relief from the acid reflux, but still have considerable pain in my chest and a difficult time with what to eat and quantity. I had such high hopes for this procedure. Has anyone else had this surgery recently??
 
i had a paraesopheal hernia corrected last Septeraber. I have been able to stop taking my medications for GERD and acid reflux, but my pain is still there. I have to be careful of everything I put in my mount.It's discuraging!:angel::angel:
 
I had a Laproscopic Nissen Fundoplication 13 months ago. I had relief of my symptoms immediately after surgery.

In my case, the reflux was triggering severe asthma and I was having severe breathing problems and I had a constant chronic cough. The coughing was gone as soon as I woke from surgery. There is a high success rate for the Fundoplications for people with breathing problems as a result of reflux.

I still take high dose PPI's daily though. I have excessive stomach acid and other digestive problems that necessitate taking the PPI's.

I'm really worried about my procedure right now though. I had a bad case of Gastroenteritis and vomited forcefully for hours. This was the first time I've had anything come up since the surgery. I'm worried I might have done damage to the stitching in my stomach. My GI doc said to just wait and see if symptoms come back and that we would treat at that time. None of the other treatments out there really helped prior to the surgery. That is why I had the surgery. There really aren't any other options out there if my symptoms do return and for me, the reflux was literally life threatening because I couldn't breathe well.
 
After 13 months you can't do damage to the stitching. As to whether it might have slightly stretched the wrap, I'm not sure. I had severe vomiting for the first 24 hours after surgery, and it did no damage at all to the wrap.

I am so thankful I've had no serious breathing troubles - just episodes of chest pain or wheezing or cough. I guess I should be thankful I can at least breathe!
