Well my L4/L5 fusion was in April 2006. I started feeling really good around August of 2007 and since then I almost forgot I ever had back troubles. Until last monday... I decided that I would be able to move furniture around , carry heavy stuff up and down stairs, etc...

Now I am sitting here with tingling in the feet and sciatica in my butt.

Can someone chime in and offer worRAB of hope. I'm scared that I may have blown out a disk above or below the fusion.

hi folks, thanks for getting back to me.

okay here is the latest update. I had a CT scan and mylogram yesterday. The radiologist said he saw no nerve inpingement on either test. It will take him alittle longer to look at the fusion sight. Good news so far !!!

but now after having that test, I am in more pain than ever... The nerve pain into the butt is killing me today. is that normal?

I am so sorry you have to deal with it after the whole year doing so well.
We all are doing a lot what we not suppose to do, but moving furniture i think it's too much.
I was told many times since we had fusion with hardware, we have to be careful for the rest of our lives. Just try to take it easy, otherwise you put too much pressure on a levels above and below. I had to have second fusion a year later after my first one because my upper levels gave up.

Take care and best wishes to you:angel:

Hi there! I feel so badly for you and I pray that this is only a temporary set back. Once our spines go thru major surgery like a fusion, we have to always protect it and guard it.

It really is hard to say, if you did anything or not. I strongly encourage you to get this checked out. They will probably give you a course of steroiRAB, do a set of xrays, and wait a week to see what happens. If you are not any better they will then order an MRI/CT scan and go from there.

Good luck and I pray that nothing has been reinjured.

That sounRAB positive that they don't see any impingement. Hopefully it is simply a nasty flare up. If this does not show anything they may want to do a myleogram next if your pain continues.

Good luck and I am so sorry you are suffering the wrath of nerve pain. I am at the moment too and it stinks.

I guess some of us are here again because we feel better, and that deceives us---
I had been well for years, and 3 or 4 months ago did some big closet cleaning, and since then I have terrible back pain and sciatica.
Had an MRI last week, and I do have nerve impingement.

Hopefully you be rebound quickly:)

I guess no matter how much time passes that we feel good, that does not mean we are well, by any means...

Hey Maldovia, I hear you on that! I'm most cautious as I don't want to go back into surgery again! I'm still dealing with sciatic pain even after surgery in August! Come to find out that I have something called Periformis Syndrome. So I faithfully do my exercises and go to PT for alignment ( yes my therapist does that too!) and it helps to loosen up my sciatic nerves in both legs so I have less pain. "INPAINAGAIN" those of us who have had surgery I don't think will ever be as we were before our injury so you have to be careful in the future. I do hope you feel better soon, perhaps you may want to try a heat wrap? As always your added to the prayer list which is quickly growing longer!

I don't have any worRAB of wisdom as I am in a similar situation right now. I had a microdiscectomy 3 years ago and have been feeling great. Then I had a hysterectomy 4 weeks ago and was doing fine and did a few loaRAB of laundry a week ago which the doctor said was OK to do at that point in my recovery and now I sit here with sciatica pain. I am going into my doctor tomorrow to see if she'll order an MRI so we can see if the disc is reherniated. I hope you haven't hurt your spine again. I also hope mine isn't hurt again.
