We adopted a stray cat and it had 6 beautiful kittens in November. The cats are now 4months old, they are chipped & immunised. I started to let them in the garden over this week. The garden isnt secure, and i have 2 other older cats. The kittens are running around the garden, but Im afraid obviously they will all disappear. Some are still in the front of the garden as i type this, and they are having so much fun. I know maybe a few might disappear, im prepared for that, but i feel like a mother hen worrying so much. Any support would be appreciated.

They need to be spayed and fixed. Otherwise this will add to the overpopulated kitten fest... Not good. But i know that the mommy will be ok.. Kittens will be ok. It must be fun to watch. 4 months is a good age.. good luck.

I had the same worries. I started mine off on leads first, then when it was time to let them go on their own i would make sure i never feed them before i let them out so they won't go far. I also put butter on the top of their paws so they would lick it off, love it and remember to come back for more. My cats also love when you sit outside with them and play with them.Goodluck.

Oh my god... would you let a toddler outside all alone... being weak and small? NO! get those kittens indoors!.. you have NO idea what danger you are putting those kittens in!.. 4 months old is WAY to young for any cat to be outside... cats shouldn't be outside in the first place... get those kittens in before a coy dog comes and kills them... this is just you being rediculously stupid and careless.. AND irresponsible!... if you can't take good care of them, find them a new GOOD home with owners that will actually care... because obviously you dont!

They also need to be spayed and nuetered, before you add even more cats to the extreme over population... which then results in thousands of cats and kittens dying in shelters.. do you want to contribute to that problem?

If you formally adopted the stray mother cat, you are responsible for her and her babies. I understand how difficult it might be to care for, what is it, 9 cats total? but allowing the kittens out in a garden that isn't secure is just begging for them to run away. You say you have them chipped and immunized, so you must care for them. If they get away and are found, they will be returned to you, due to the chip, but you will have to answer how and why they got out in the first place. If they get out and get mauled or run over, can you live with that on your conscience? Try to sell them or give them away to good families. If you can't do that, then think about relinquishing them to an animal shelter that has more resources than you to find adoptive homes. If you plan on keeping them, then have them spayed/neutered so they won't create to the overpopulation of cats as their mother did, and figure out a way to make your garden secure (mesh between fence slats, a higher fence, i.e.).

Yer I was like that with my cat. What I did was put it outside for a bit and them brought it back in. And kept on doing this over a period of time, making the times bigger so the cat gets used to being around the house but being able to adventure sortof thing. I've found with having older cats, it helps teach the little ones what to do.
