We have some great friends but the recession has hit them hard. He lost his job and has been doing bit work for nearly a year. We have been giving him work where we can to help them out and there is no animosity because of this. The problem is that financially our circumstances have changed and we can now afford to make renovations on our house and go on holidays etc. We hate discussing this with them, but it is exciting for us and the planning has been taking up a lot of our time. So when they ask what we have been doing I feel awkward telling them, like I am boasting (but I am not). We are now afraid that we will lose them as friends and they will think we are now just wankers. We are always interested in what they do and modify where we go to what they can afford etc. How can we stop them growing away from us without offending them?
