Advice?

About two years ago, I had a root canal done on one of my front teeth. I call this tooth Frankentooth. So, Friday, Frankentooth starts to hurt pretty badly. But I have problems with grinding my teeth when I sleep, so I figured it must hurt because I hadn't been wearing my night guard. Saturday, Frankentooth hurt so badly that I had to break out the pain killers I got when I had my wisdom teeth removed. Now today, not only does Frankentooth hurt pretty badly, my chin is starting to hurt as well. I couldn't get in to see a dentist yesterday and I'm wondering if I should go in to urgent care today? What could they do for me there? There isn't anything obvious that I can see, so I'm guessing they'll have to take x-rays. I just really don't know what I should do. Any advice?

Go to the dentist, just to be on the safe side. It won't hurt anything.

And if you do have a major problem, better to find out now then later, right?

If it really hurts, like you can't stand it anymore, you should go to emergency care. They will at least get a look at it, some X rays and give you painkillers. If all goes well, they'll only send you to see the doc tomorrow. On the other hand if it's something a little bit serious they can take care of it right now.

The only thing that Urgent Care or the ER can do for you is give you more painkillers and tell you to go to the dentist tomorrow.

If you need more painkillers and have $50 to spare for UC or $100 to spare for ER, then go.

If not, wait for tomorrow.

Yes, story time again.

Ok, when my sister was 12 years old, she had an accident. She fell running down the driveway at my grandparents house and while falling, broke part of her front tooth. Now it was a bad break. So she was taken to the dentist, they drilled out the inside of the tooth, filled it, and caped it.

A few years later, she started having tooth pain. She figured it was nothing to worry about. She put it off for a few weeks. My mom found her putting a numbing cream in her mouth at 3 in the morning one night.

She was taken to the hospital. It turned out that the tooth had caused a bigger problem. It became infected soon after it was sealed. The infection spread throughout her mouth, and got into the bone marrow inside her skull. The Xay looked like tree roots.

The pain was coming from the infection getting into her sinuses, and "snot" filling in the space.

Not to make you worry, but I would go get this looked at ASAP.

My sister only had to get the tooth re drilled and filled properly, and took antibodcs for about a year. She is fine now. Don't put this off.

Definitely get this checked as soon as possible. I've heard that you can die from things like this, can't remember what its called. Anyway you're not going to die, but seriously get it checked.

I bet this guy is a dentist, or a doctor, or maybe even a train conductor on one of those kiddy rides at the fair. Are you sure you don't remember what it's called? Because the rest of your gemstone advice sounded spot on.

Yeah it sounds infected, and you should have it checked out, as a matter of fact, unless you enjoy pain and possibly going insane and dying from it, you should go. Your choice of course.

Wow, I had something similar to this happen to me. When I was 10 I was playing with a friend and he got mad and one of his die-cast big rig trucks went flying at my face. It broke both of my front upper teeth. I had to get a set of porcelain enamel caps put on. Well after a few years, the right tooth started hurting really badly, like really severely. At first we thought it was just like what everyone here was saying... an infected tooth. Well we waited until Monday when we could see the dentist and after some x-rays, it turned out that the root on the right tooth was actually damaged pretty good back when the tooth broke and it was beginning to become infected.

The dentist said that as time goes on, the cap begins to deteriorate. It may not look obvious, but really tiny holes can beging to form in the enamel, causing air to hit the nerve (if it's exposed such as mine was which we didn't notice the first time). It'll be a good idea to go to your dentist one way or the other. If it's like mine and a damaged nerve is just beginning to become infected then it's nothing to really too bad. It'll just require a root canal and some anti-biotics to take the infection away. If it's the other, then I'm not too sure how they're gonna take care of it, but either way... get ready for your pocket book to take a healthy hit. Best of luck Mags.

It's called sepsis or septicemia poisining. You can die from it at the very least you can weaken or damage your heart. It can spread to other organs and damage them as well. A lot of people walk around wih this condition and never know they have it because it is the "sneaky" sort of infection. Symptoms are mostly pretty mild , cold sweats sometimes night sweats and of course high white blood cell count. It is not like a cold (with a list of symptoms to let you know it's there) usually only pain at the infected site maybe swelling , and you can get it just about anywhere.

Take it from someone who has lost at least twelve teeth (I had extras). You can really ge into some troube if you let it go. I don't happen to get numb at all so the pain I have to feel when the dentist rips it out of my head has to be much less than what I went through the day before. So I know what I'm talking about when it comes to abcesses .

Please go to the doctor if you haven't gone already.
