Hey all, my car heated up sometime back and I go it fixed, but since then it doesn't accelerate as well as it used to. There is no major problem, the mechanic has checked it and everything and it runs fine, but it takes a little while more to get to a certain speed. A friend recommended some hi-tech spark plugs (Bosch, i think), which are a little expensive but according to him, will increase the acceleration. Can anyone help me out in this regard?
Thanks/

Say take a Mustang and put normal spark plugs in and run it down the track. Say it does it in 16 seconds at say 111 mph.

Now go out and spend 4 times the normal price for plugs and re-run the test down the track. You might, MIGHT do it in 15.7 seconds at 112 mph.

So does it make a huge difference, no. Not accelerating sounds like either one of the follow.

1. fuel filter clogged in turn the engine can't drink as quick as it wants
2. air filters clogged in turn the car can't breath well
3. O2 or such sensors are going bad, in turn not mixing fuel right
4. dirty intake and butterfly
5. bad gas (swap brand names as not all cars like all gas)
6. car requires 93 octane but you are using 87 octane
7. very dirty transmission fluid

Spark plugs will only increase acceleration if the old ones were shot.I would go back to where I got it fixed and have them check over what they did, and depending on the type of engine check the cam timing and ignition timing.

Overheated car power loss? better get the mechanic to run a compression test and CLY leakage test before spending money. Any spark is a good spark. Misfiring is another story. Some Bosch spark plugs have resistance built into the spark plug so be careful if your car has resistance plug wires and you also install resistor plugs the spark may jump to ground some where else. Just moving the old crispy spark plug wires can cause more misfire issues. As always if I knew what your car make model and engine size was plus how many miles it has?
