I'm 20 years old, An enrolled student at a local university double majoring in Physics / Engineering starting school this summer. Ever sense i was a child i was diagnosed with ADHD have always had problems sitting still, paying attention, tapping and moving around, etc. I always have had horrible grades and eventually dropped out of highschool in the 10th grade. For some strange reason i have always done extremely well on tests and for dropping out and being in special ed classes all throughout middle and highschool i am at a college level with all of material. I've always been very well knowledgeable in computers aswell as mathematics and can comprehend alot of things most people can't including quantum theory. The problem im most concerned with is i can't seem to remember anything i read. I could read you exactly 3 sentences and when i am finished i could not tell you what the first sentence was. Is there a problem with me? Does everyone have this sort of issue? Is there anyway to "fix" or help my situation? I love books. Many like "The Black Hole War" or "The General Principles of Reality" however i never remember what i read so its almost as if its a waste of time.... i just get the enjoyment of reading for the second i'm actually doing it. Any Thoughts?

P.S. Sorry about the story, Figured i'd give abit of history to receive a more "accurate" or "logical" reply :]

Also what i thought was a bit strange, Most people can remember things of their past for example: childhood memories, things they used to do, etc... I have a hard time remembering any past of anything... no childhood memories or things i may have done in school with other people or maybe even events i went to with my parents. That being said, I never have issues loosing keys, wallet, cellphone or anything like that.

It sounds like you are gifted. Young people who are gifted typically have asynchronistic learning patterns...in other words certain areas of the brain jump way ahead, and other parts develop at uneven rates. Gifted children often are misunderstood, and do not show typical learning patterns. This could explain your deep understanding of physics and engineering concepts, while you feel as though you don't comprehend your reading.

My advice to you is to embrace your unique talents and abilities, and push forward. Continue to enjoy your books, even if for the sheer enjoyment of reading, without worry about remembering...I have a feeling that you are absorbing much more than you know!

And, if you don't loose your keys and your wallet...you are way ahead of most of us! Best to you, love yourself, and enjoy everyday, my friend.

Not remembering is part of your learning disability. My son, now an adult is ADHD. He tested very high IQ as most ADHD people do. I took him to a specialist who would take her finger and placed in on his back and would run her fingers as different shapes. He could not tell she was making a S on his back. He was also very distracted during the testing. If someone walked down the hall he completely lost task of what he was doing and focused on the sound of the foot steps. He was put in a program at school to learn how he understands things. When he was in college he took meds during the semester to focus. It was his choice and it helped. There are organizations to help, and it is very possible your college has counselors specially trained on how to work around your gift. It is a gift, you just need to find how it works for you.

That's funny you mention that. I have that same problem... When walking around or even when trying to sleep i hear sounds 4 stories below me of people talking and can almost hear exactly what their saying and i notice it without thought... and my girlfriend has no idea what I'm talking about. Sometimes she wakes me up for strange sounds in the house and i almost immediately hear and diagnose the sound to exactly where it's coming from and can also give a detailed explanation of why it makes that sound. It just seems like i catch onto things most people can't or can comprehend things above most people and also have a very broad knowledge of things. I personally love to learn and i try to learn just about everything i possibly can. It just seems like i could learn so much more and increase my knowledge if i could memorize the things i read.
