Advice needed on job search?

I have graduated as a Linguistic Bachelor for 14 months and worked for a year as a Volunteer / Intern thanks to my dad and his connections. I've been trying to look for a job in Singapore but so far I got no progress at all.

My cousin happened to get an Admin Assistant job offer thanks to her former boss who favored her, and referred her to this firm in Singapore. She had to turn it down though because her parents and husband wouldn't allow her to go. I talked to my friend N about it, N told me I should ask my cousin if I could jump in and take her place but I felt really awkward (she wanted to go but just couldn't because of her family), so I didn't ask her.

Just now I read this article on http://jobstreets.com.sg/ and it is said that "The biggest mistake a person can make in a job search is to recoil from their friends and network" which makes me think, again, should I courage up and ask my cousin to refer me? Or is it too bold / bad and I should try finding a job by myself?

Any advice would be much appreciated :)
