Advice from NC law enforcement regarding housing a sex offender?

In Oregon, sex offenders have to register in the county in which they live. Not doing so will land them back in jail. They also get their pic in the paper and on a sex offender website.

Not sure about NC. Not telling the land lord about it could raise issues about the lease if he finds out.

Why would this guy from your church lie about it? Not telling the landlord about it is the same as lying

A man at my church has said he will be offering to share an apartment with a convicted sex offender (This is a situation where the guy was 19 and had sex with a 15 year old girlfriend). The man does not want his landlord to find out about it. He said the offender will not be on probation or parole when he moves in with him, but the sheriff in Forsyth, NC has to know the address where he'll be moving before they'll approve him staying there. So the question is this: Will the sheriff's department actually be going out to the residence and knocking on the door to talk with people there or will he simply be looking up the address to make sure it's not close to schools, etc.?
P.S. No, it's honestly not me. I'm 40, not 19. I'm just concerned for my friend who will be offering the housing.

Unfortunately I suspect that the police will in fact physically check to make sure that the offender is living where he says he is.

If they happen to catch him in the apartment, all will be well and good. But if he's out when they come knocking they'll almost certainly try asking neighbors - or the landlord if they know how to easily get in touch with him. They might not explain exactly why - or they might.

And GR, no worries...we knew it wasn't about you. Everybody knows Cons don't engage in sex outside of marriage. ;-)
