Whenever my pollen allergies are acting up (like now) the first symptom I get is an extremely itchy roof of mouth. This is gross, but sometimes I scratch it so hard with my tongue that my skin starts sort of flaking off up there. Does anyone have any advice for how to take care of that? I already take Allegra D and use a nose spray (Nasalcord) but nothing seems to relieve that symptom-- and it's pretty awful.

Would love to hear from anybody with thoughts.

Thanks,
Angie

For years, I thought I was the only one that had that! I would do this "thing" with my throat that make the roof of my mouth vibrate, thus scratching the itch! LOL

Now, I have my daytime allergies, and my nighttime allergies. It's only at night that my ears, eyes, and roof of my mouth itch. My daytime allergy symptoms are watery eyes, runny or congested nose, and sneezing.

I've taken Allegra, Claritin, Clarinex, and Zyrtec. I seem to become immune after a while, and have to rotate. When I take Allegra (12hr or 24hr), I do have to supplement at night with benadryl, and that helps with the itching areas. The other medications rarely require benadryl at night.

I also have been getting this for years. Start after the snow melts and continues til summer. My palate, and deep into my ears. Drives me Crazy. I never took anything for it, until this year when I develop other symptoms like runny nose, itchy nose, congestion at night.
I first tried reactine, it worked great on the itchy palate and ears but not at all on the other symptoms. I switched to claritin 12 hours and that does the job great! I can sleep again!
As of late, my lips and throat (skin) also get itchy! I don't know why

This is just something to consider. I've always had bad allergies. Now, I don't have a lot of problem in spring although I'm allergic to trees and grass pollen, but fall and ragweed and goldenrod are really bad. When I was a kid, bananas drove my mouth nuts because of the itching year round, but in the fall I just could not eat a banana the itching was so bad. Now, I can eat bananas in the winter just fine especially if coated in milk (as in cereal or banana cream pie for example). Now if I'm having allergy symptoms from something, and usually I don't know what it is, then those stupid bananas can cause some minor itching.

In other worRAB, if you already have symptoms from a pollen allergy, you have to avoid ingesting fooRAB you are allergic to or you can initiate that mouth itching. It might be something you usually can handle but when piled on top of the pollen symptoms just turns out to be too much. At least that's what it seems like to me.

Last year was the first year potato allergy really showed up bad. During hayfever season I ate meal after meal of potatoes from our garden and my skin itched like crazy every time I ate potatoes. After hayfever season was over, my reaction to potatoes wasn't as severe. Actually, I never suspected potatoes because I never ate them in large enough quantities before for the itching to get so out of control. So it could be something you do consume often but haven't figured out that you are allergic to yet. Just my opinion.

WOW! right on the money! funny, just last week, while eating a banana, my mouth and nose were itchy and tingly. I wondered then if I was allergic to bananas. I also find milk to make my palate and ears much worst. Thanks for your input!

I have the same thing! nothing I do seems to help. I found reactine to work well for these symptoms (itchy palate, ears) but not on my congested nose. Claritin works great on other symptoms but not on the palate/ears.
I'm finding itchy palate/ears much worst after consuming dairy products!
