Adverts at the cinema?

Can anyone explain why I have to put up with adverts in the cinema when I have just PAID to go and watch a movie? We never used to have to put up with them and then when they appeared it was like one or two at a time, now it's 15-29 mins of them, wtf? I don't mind trailers as at least they might be of some interest.

I know what you mean, went to watch Wallace & Grommit at weekend, had to sit through nearly 20minutes of advertisements, and that was before a whopping 8 minutes of trailers... There is no way under common sense that advertisements should last longer than something like upcoming releases!!

There's a maximum of 13 minutes allowed for adverts (not including pre-show 'slides')
I agree it's far too much, and yes once all trailers etc are added it can last well over 25 minutes, although one set I had recently was 29 minutes in total, think it was the last Star Wars film on its 1st week

I don't often go to the cinema infact I have not been for several years but out of all the times I have been they have all had adverts, one film had adverts that went on and on must have been half an houts worth at least.

Well, I don't know how it works for you guys, but adverts more often than not have the opposite effect on me to the one intended - they usually put me off buying stuff.

I object to having this crap forced upon me, whether on TV or in the cinema. At home I watch less and less TV these days (partly due to the fact that a lot of what's on is utter shite, and partly because of the ever-longer, ever more frequent ad breaks, for which I usually use the mute button), and for my relatively infrequent cinema trips I try and turn up just a few minutes before the actual film is due to start so that I don't have to endure the interminable ad breaks.

I detest adverts!!!

I tend to go in ten minutes later than the start time anyway and at some cinemas you can find out when the atual film starts and go in then. I just use it as an excuse to chat for a while with whoever I've gone with and get comfy in my chair, balance my popcorn somewhere precarious to knock over later etc.

I imagine with the millions they spend on making movies now, these kind of things keep the cost of going to the cinema down. Let's be honest, they cinemas WOULD charge more if there were no adverts and film tickets are pricy enough as it is.

Plus if they didn't work - the agencies wouldn't use them!

I only like them if they're from Pearl and Dean - bah bah bah bah bah bah bababa bah bah bah bah baaaaaaaaaaaa ba!

hehe, the pearl and deam music is great. Does anybody remember a group called Goldbug? They did a version of Led Zep's whole lotta love mixed with the P&D music in the mid nineties, that was awesome.

But some of those adverts made just for the cinema are really good (like the smirnoff ones) and there is something enjoyable about seeing regular adverts on a huge screen with booming Dolby THX sound!

the cinema by me in gun wharf showed 45 mins of adverts and trailers which was bloody ridiculous. this was during wallace and grommit as well

Oh yes! I remember these from when I went to the cinema as a five year old and before watching something like The Love Bug, they would have the ad's suggesting to go to the local curry house and before the address could be read out, the ad would suddenly stop.

Ahhh those were the days of three screen cinema's, intermission, lady coming down the aisle to sell choc ices and Kia-Ora....

I don't mind adverts at the cinema now as long as the film starts at the time advertised. One film I went to see started half hour after the advertised time due to the amount of ad's and then a delay so some music could be played

Whenever that Pearl and Dean tune comes on, me and my mate sit and sing it.

Its part of the cinema experience, and we just tend to chat quietly through the adverts :D

I'm never really interesting in the adverts before movies. Although I do enjoy the trailers of upcoming releases.

The longest I remember adverts being on for was the latest Star Wars movie, they seemed to be a lot mroe then normal.

I love the trailers, sometimes they are better than the following film....

I must admit whenever I see the HP trailer I get goosebumps EVERY TIME :o
