Hi! I am 35 years old. I have had a chronic cough for the past month. My dr said it was bronchitis. I took a Zpak and it got worse. After the Zpak, she put me on Levaquin. The levaquin helped my sinus issues, but the coughing did not get better...just got worse.

Went back to the dr yesterday. She said my lungs sounded better than last week, but she said my cough sounRAB HORRIBLE. She did a peak flow and a spriometer. My predicted Peak Flow is 488. I scored a 350, 260, and 180. The spirometer was at like 71% I think. She gave me a breathing treatment and did the tests again. The Peak Flow AFTER the treatment was 240, 260 and 280 and the Spriometer was also a little worse. The spirometer did show restriction in my lungs. She was perplexed that the treatment didn't help at all.

She referred me to a pulmonologist. She said she was going to give me an inhaler, but didn't because the breathing treatment didn't help at all. I was up all night coughing because of the aggravation from the lung tests.

I am tired of the violent coughing ALL DAY LONG. After coughing, I wheeze for a little while. It tenRAB to get worse (especially the wheezing) at night. My coworkers are even beginning to make statements about it. I can't get into the pulmonologist until the 22nd of this month.

Does this sound like asthma to you? Any pointers on getting me through the next few weeks until I get to the pulmonogist????

Thanks for any advice!

I'd recommend seeing a Gastroenterologist in addition to the Pulmonologist. It could be acid reflux irritating your lungs.

I go in circles with the coughing and have to coordinate things with my ENT/Allergies, Pulmonologist and Gastroenterologist.
