Adrian Chiles - The Kiss of Death to a TV show?

Actually the One Show is getting about the same audience as this time last year. Daybreak got 660,000 on Friday morning and struggled back to 700,000 on Monday - BARB
We should have yesterday's figure later this morning. But considering the investment ITV has made in Daybreak it is performing very badly and after a month on the air you would expect it to be doing better if all the hype is to be believed.I suspect it proves that old saying that you can't fool all the people all the time:D

What people can't understand them? or is it just you and your inability to understand the English Language spoken by someone other than a toffy nose twit and how do you define common? those that live outside particular areas of Southern England? Methinks your a bit of a snob:p:p

Me too. I think Adrian is competant as a presenter. He was very good on Your Fired and Working Lunch, and does seem fairly knowledgable about what's going on. Christine I have yet to see her show real interest or knowledge about any topic, and do anything besides leaning forward and either grinning inanely or her 'serious' look.

I have tried to tune into Daybreak on a few occasions over the last couple of weeks, just to see what the new programme was like and I quite liked Adrian and Christine on the One Show.

It has been an advert break every time that I have tuned in. I only have a few minutes in the morning whilst getting ready to go to work, and I would like to see a bit of news and may be something a bit interesting. Not too much to ask from a magazine breakfast show.

Yesterday though, I did wade through the aRAB and waited to see what insightful programming they had on. An interview with two guys described as vulcanologist, a promising start, who then went to to describe how they abseiled into active volcanoes "'cus it looked really cool."

Straight back to Bill and Sian.

Hint to ITV. Put some news on and make the programme interesting. Oh and have more than 2 minutes between add breaks.

Snob? No I just appreciate good diction. When Miss Bleakely, Zoe Salmon or Colin Walker refer to 'Poynd noytes' or the fact they 'Goy' somewhere or are doing something 'Royte Noye' I've no idea what the f**** they're on about:D

Adrian was great on The Apprentice:You're Fired, the sports stuff he does, Working Lunch and he was great on The One Show. I think he is anything BUT the kiss of death!

He wasn't greedy. If he was greedy he would have accepted the million pound deal he was offered by ITV last time his contract was up.

He wanted to stay at the BBC and indeed offered to stay for a lot less money, all he wanted was to do was The One Show 5 nights a week like he had always done.

Personally, I would have been off to ITV like a shot. How many people on this forum could really say they would turn down that sort of money?

Lucky Adrian was there this morning . They were interviewing a 97 year old absailer and with the satelite delay plus she couldn't understand a word christine was saying made it a pretty pointless interview.

Only when Adrian stepped in could she understand the questions.

The failure of Daybreak is fantastic. I cannot stand the sight of Chiles or his dumb side-kick, and the fact that they got greedy and ran off to ITV was a lucky escape for the BBC and licence payers. It serves ITV right. Clearly ITV believed all the media lies about their popularity.

I'd love to see Daybreak axed.

I agree, he wasnt greedy at all. He was treated like a bit of dirt by the BBC. And they have suffered, as the ratings for The One Show prove. Didnt Christine and Adrian used to get around 6 million?

The One Show last night got 4.41 m. On the same Tuesday in 2009 it got 4.51 m so the difference really is insignificant.
- BARB figures

Give me Bill Turnbull and Sian Williams anyday on BBC Breakfast a much more imformative programme by miles, compared to the dumbed down ITV offering.

Adrian Chiles is well overated i bet he wets himself laughing everytime he thinks what ITV offered him to defect to them, from the BBC.

What, you cant comprehend various local dialects? and who sets the standard for 'good dialect' anyway? I have no problem understanding presenters from places like Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Glasgow, Birmingham, Cardiff and places like that. IMO the old BBC standard is well outdated and extremely boring.

Isn't that something to do with TV's(more so the BBC) obsession with shoeing in regional/ethnic accents onto primetime TV and radio slots? Instead of proper accents like Bill Turnbull, Susanna Reid and Sophie Rayworth etc.

I've tried watching Daybreak, but it's just so crap. Not a patch on GMTV and Chiles & Bleakley are just awful. I've switched over to BBC1 & Radio 2!
