I started taking ADHD medicine a few years ago when I saw a brochure that verified all of my concentration symptoms. The Dr. started me on Ritalin, moved to Focalin, and now I'm using Vyvanse. In some ways the medicine helps, such as being more alert and an increase in motivation, but I really haven't noticed an increase in concentration. Regardless if I take the medicine or not, I still get distracted with everyday things like reading, conversations, lectures, you name it. I also find myself "talking" to myself way too much in my head. For example, when reading I will drift off and talk to myself about last night's football game (or anything random) as I continue to read. Only later do I "snap" out of it and realize I absorbed nothing that I just read. I have no train of thought either. My mind is like a hyperactive dog and I constantly have to force myself to concentrate. And when I force myself to concentrate it is little help because my mind becomes fixated on "being aware" of concentrating opposed to truly concentrating.
I fear that most answers will say that talking to one's self is normal, and what I'm experiencing is just who I am. Or that some might say that there is no fix for symptoms like these, epecially if ADHD medicine doesn't help. But it is definitely a problem for me so does anyone know what medicine will treat this, or any techniques that have helped others like me? Thanks in advance!
