adding AC to 2006 chevy truck?

I own a 2006 Chevy 1500 with the 4.3 and 5sp, no ac. I know it was an option, so whats involved in adding it? Is the heater core different or just the housing where the condenser will go? The interior parts I can source from a junkyard most likely, and maybe the larger ac parts from a wrecked truck. How much wiring is involved? a switch or two and I would think that chevy would use the same harness for all the trucks and just blank off the connectors.
Anyone have any experience with doing this?
I know the major components that I'll need, can anyone point me to a good source of parts other than the dealer?
Thanks all!

The only cost effective way to do this is to get a donor vehicle and do all the parts swapping yourself - the problem with that concept is finding a totaled donor truck where the a/c components have not been destroyed.... Once you get the parts installed - and that will be many many hours of work... then you will need to take it to a a/c service center to have the system evacuated and charged, that requires special equipment - you can't just dump freon into it, that simply will not work.

that job is gonna suck.your on the right track though.you could go with an underdash unit.try red dot .com or search for red dot.the website is rdac.com
