Adding a cam with stock mufflers

I have done my share of engine mods but I am enjoying the peaceful sound of the stock exhaust on my 2010 RK. I am wondering if I just add say a 26 cam and Fuel Moto 2/1/2 head pipe to get rid of the cat and a tune if I will see much performance gain or am I throwing money away without adding a louder free flowing exhaust.

Have you already added the high flow air cleaner? If not, the cam swap is not going to do any good.

The stock pipes are restrictive, and will rob power. Look at something like the Vance and Hines Monster Ovals or Monster Rounds, good air flow and not loud even with performance cams in a TC-96. Mufflers can be designed to give whatever sound and flow you want, though some combinations will take a sizeable muffler to achieve (hence the size of the Monster Ovals). My father spent years working at a firm that designed mufflers, he explained in fuller detail than I wanted to hear when I was a kid how it was done. We are now where the motorcycle muffler manufacturers will have to offer performance pipes with lower decibel output, just to survive (if any place is left without a "only stock pipes" law on the books a few years from now...).

Yes I plan on doing the ac also. I am in the minority that doesn't mind the stock sound and it actually runs pretty strong as is. Another muffler option I was looking at is the V&H street legal. They look nice but I don't know if they gain any flow over stock mufflers.

You can get the sound you want and a Lot Better Running Bike, just add a pair of Supertrapp Fatshots,,, Forgot instead of a Andrews 26 go with the New Cam Anderws has out for the 96" its THE 48h,,,
