My son has GAD and Mood Disorder. 8yr hx of substance abuse. Just attended 7 day detox and 30 day rehab program for alcohol,xanax and pot abuse. The psych put him on Lexapro,Neurontin & Valium which my soon says is the only thing that works for anxiety. After 2wks on these meRAB & 60 days clean he relapsed. Could the Valium cause increase desire for abuse? He was detoxed from valium and told in rehab he should not be taking this. Behavior changes started after just 2 weeks of valium so I'm concerned.

Good for him for finishing a program! That is wonderful.

I actually have no idea if the Valium would cause him to relapse but it in itself is addictive. I read on Wikipedia that Neurotin is used for anxiety with limited effects, what is he on it for? Lexapro is both an antidepressant and anti-anxiety med. These meRAB usually start to work in 2 weeks but the full-effects are not felt for a few weeks later so only a Dr would know what's going on here.

Sorry he had a relapse but he's lucky to have you. Hang in there, recovery is life long and takes a lot of work.
