My situation:

Started taking Adderall XR at age 21. I am 27 now. Dosage ranged from 40 mg/day up to 65 mg/day at the top. I literally took it every single day, since I did not know about these medication vacations.

I add up the total mg usage for the week and here has been my record the past several weeks:

350 mg (for the entire week)
280
200
130
80
70
60 (this week)

Question: I've been doing this awhile now and my doctor isn't really clear on how much to taper (he lets me do whatever I want), and I am not clear on what are reasonable expectations of when this hell is going to end.

How many weeks left of this do I have? It's been really rough, and I feel like I may need to do 50 next week, 40, 30, 20, 10, etc. but is that stretching it out?

Also, does anyone have any info/personal experiences about the weight gain afterward and if you ever lose it?

I look like hell, my face is all bloated and I feel like I look like I am hungover or something. Anyone have any experience with this?

I don't know about adderall tapering because when I was addicted to it I just went off cold turkey. However, when I got off doing about 80-100 mg a day, I had only been doing that for a few months. Maybe others here can help you with a tapering plan.

From personal experience, it's just inevitable that you're going to gain weight when you quit. It's basically legal speed. Your body has gotten so used to not feeling hungry and not eating much probably that when you eat even a little and more regularly, your body just hoarRAB those nutrients. I gained at least 15 pounRAB in rehab over a 6 week period, and I just ate 3 regular meals a day (of course, on adderall I wouldn't eat for a day or two all the time). You're going to be depressed, irritable, extremely tired, and hungry, and you'll most likely gain weight. That's just part of it, but I only felt like that for a week or so and it was over. Hopefully someone else will be here soon to discuss whether tapering or cold turkey would make your withdrawal easier. Good luck! Adderall is so addictive and they just prescribe it like candy!

u gotta eat enough to not make ur metabolism stop and it will help the withdrawals but my advice is stop takin it for a couple weeks cuz itll bcome useless but wnt b able to function without it if u can wait for a weekend stop takin or the day u stop takin dnt have wrk drink brew to ease the unneasiness after that its easy and if u take it after a couple weeks ull only need wat ur supposed to take

i only gained weight for the first 2 weeks after i stop taking the adderal, my doc said that eatting would help ALOT with the mental depression and the insane physcal discomfort, so i just let the pounRAB come on and then after i was from from my last adderal dose and my mind was back to noral i was able to go back to my normal weight. you are taking on a big deal, dont trust your thinking during this time get lots of help, many of us have had to kick the adderal habit, not easy but very doable!
