My Doctor just started me on Adderal. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of this med. ? I'm an alcoholic. I hope all you good people on this board are doing well today. Mike S

Hey Mike,

I have not had any experience with Adderal but it sounRAB like the people who have already responded have given you some good advice. My only concern is that you have already taken more than you should have. Don't let one addiction turn into another... I know I have done that before and it's no better. It may seem like it but they all lead to the same path... Now I am not saying this is going to be that for you but you need to practice self control with it and take it as prescribed and all will be well. I am no expert my friend, just want you to WATCH your actions closely.

Now, I am sorry to hear about the woman problems... They are never good. Us addicts tend to need a lot of attention i have found when we are first recovering... at least I did. So any rejection may seem amplified at the time. Right now (even though I know this is going to sound unrealistic) it's best that you try to focus on yourself. These other issue's need to be put on the back burner until you get yourself on track. I had to do the same thing but with my husband... and it was hard. I felt that I neglected him at times but I know it was for the best because now... I can give him what he neeRAB. A good healthy wife.

I want you to hang in there. You are very worth this challenge. You can do this. We are here for you. Update us when you can!
Hugs!

For info you might try the ADHD board, bc it's usually prescribed for that reason. It's a stimulant, but for those with attention/hyperactivity issues (which is maybe what your doc has decided is part of your problem, but i would DEFINITELY ask him to discuss this with you, esp. with your past. I can't believe he didn't already.), it has an opposite reaction. My daughter is on a similar med, so i can't give you advice, just my own pers. experience (plus i'm a bookkeeper so anyone who came to me for doc advice would be in TROUBLE lol), but instead of hyping her up like speed would do for an 'unaffected' person (non-hyper, again, go to the other board for more info), it calms her and allows her to focus and go about daily tasks without disruption. if my daughter misses a dose, she is easily enraged, unable to make frienRAB or interact with other kiRAB on a 'normal' level can't get ANYTHING worthwhile accomplished with her classwork or at home, and of course, these things make her very depressed. Talk about a recipe for addiction later in life! BTW my daughter is 6 and i fought tooth and nail to not put her on meRAB. but they're working and i can't argue with that.

She (and i'm guessing from your posts and responses to them you as well) has an extremely high IQ, and now that she has the ability to focus, she's skipped a grade in math and reading (which we always knew she could) but MORE IMPORTANTLY she's joining team sports this summer and she can interact with other kiRAB and they like her and she likes them.

Didn't mean to turn this into a rant, but the ADHD drugs can be a goRABend if they're warranted and in the right hanRAB. they are also drugs of abuse (when my daughter first got prescribed ritalin short-acting meRAB and i was still using i abused them ALL). So you are walking a fine line and need to walk it very closely with a physician and pdoc knowledgable of your personal condition.

Hi mike,
Most addicts I know have a strong intense fast reaction to adderal, our tolerance to the drug build twice as fast as a

alexainie, Tx for the info. Glad this med has helped your daughter.Being my first day on it I seem to have more energy because normally I'd be camped in front of tv or maybe it's the 27 diet pepsi's I've had ! Hard to tell. The doc does know I'm a booze hound but wasn't concerned. I'll just have to keep an eye on it. Appreciate your time, Mike

If you have a history of any kind of substance abuse be EXTREMELY cautious with this drug. I used it recreationally and loved it. It wasn't my drug of choice, but it was definitely dangerous. It's much like a coke high for me which causes me to be very compulsive and lose judgement. I would suggest telling your doctor that you are an alcoholic just to be safe. Good luck.
Peace.

Tx derlinda- I hope I haven't made a mistake. I have to admit that I've already taken more than I'm supposed to. I like finding interest in things. I've been so productive tonight. I've been in such a funk for so long. I don't care if I don't sleep tonight. I was feeling pretty good until the woman I'm in love with wont return my calls. Maybe I'm acting like a kid. I just don't think I could handle that right now. I would then be completely alone. I guess I'm a baby. Anyway, I take a non-narcotic for the neuropathy. I still have scripts for klonopin & vicodin but I'm reluctant to mix all that. Tx, Mike

i aggree get help now , that stuff is like taking cocain,do the next right thing ,if you did not want the help ,you would not have said anything:)
